Do Luong: Welcoming the Linh Kiem Temple Historical Relic
(Baonghean)On the morning of July 30, at Thuan Son commune, Do Luong district People's Committee held a ceremony to receive the Certificate of recognition as a provincial-level historical and cultural relic of Linh Kiem temple.
Linh Kiem Temple worships Mr. Nguyen Trung Ngan, the son of Nguyen Hien, a first-class scholar from Hung Yen. He was intelligent and passed the Imperial examination at the age of 56 in the Giap Thin examination. During the Tran Dynasty, he held many different positions. In 1355, he was appointed as Kinh Luoc Su of Lang Giang town, a position second only to the title of Vuong of the Tran Dynasty's royal family. He had the merit of defeating the Ai Lao rebels. In 1337, he held the position of An Phu of Nghe An. He had the merit of keeping the border peaceful, making efforts to rectify and severely punish corrupt officials, and discovering the Anh Do land, reclaiming and establishing many farms, encouraging villages and communes to open schools to teach their children.
In 1370, he passed away at the age of 82. After his death, the Royal Court allowed many localities to build temples to worship and pay tribute to him. In Thang Long alone, there are 7 temples, in Do Luong there are 3 temples, in Thuan Son commune, Linh Kiem temple was built in Thuan Ly village. Currently, Linh Kiem temple still retains 4 royal decrees of 4 dynasties. To commemorate his merits, on the 11th and 12th of June (lunar calendar) every year, the people of Thuan Son commune organize festivals and many cultural activities rich in identity, expressing their admiration for Thanh Hoang Nguyen Trung Ngan, attracting a large number of people to participate. After nearly 700 years, the temple still retains the ancient architecture of the Nguyen Dynasty, decorated and elaborately carved such as: Dragon worshiping the moon, birds, phoenixes, unicorns and turtles.
