(Baonghean) -In order to inspire students' passion for reading, in the 2011-2012 school year, the Do Luong Education Department has implemented the program "Reading Festival" to all primary schools in the district. To implement the program, each school has its own way of organizing, bringing practical results, creating a strong effect on readers...

It has become a habit that during recess or 15 minutes of team activities, students of Do Luong Town Primary School come to the mobile bookshelf to read books. The mobile bookshelf is arranged right in the school yard, next to the flower garden, the row of banyan trees and the row of stone benches. Students voluntarily borrow books to read and voluntarily return books with the support of the librarian. Books in the mobile bookshelf are changed regularly, creating attraction for students.

Ms. Le Thi Su, Principal of Do Luong Town Primary School, said: In order to create conditions for students to access books, every year the school spends about 5 - 10 million VND to buy books and magazines suitable for the age of primary school students to add to the school library. Currently, the school library has over 2,000 books and newspapers of all kinds. In addition, the school has invested in connecting 56 computers, built an electronic library model, assigned a teacher union to guide students to read newspapers, look up information online... The movement "Read and follow the book" is widely launched among all students of the school. Every week, during the flag salute period on Monday morning, each grade sends students to introduce the book they have read; 15 minutes of activities at the beginning of the class are for storytelling based on the book; answering questions and answers about the content of the story and the book they have read. Based on that, every month, there is a ranking and awarding of students who have participated in introducing books and telling stories based on books the most times. The school library staff regularly introduces new books for students and parents to read; organizes students to borrow books to read at home...

At Van Son Primary School, starting from the 2008-2009 school year, the "school garden library" model was built. Behind the principal's office, 10 small bookcases divided by class are neatly arranged under each tree. During recess and free time, students are free to read books according to their interests. The bookcases have all kinds of books: textbooks, reference books, Math for Children magazine, comics... The school garden library has solved the limitations of indoor libraries: students' recess is short, there is no time to wait to borrow books, students are reluctant to register to borrow... Thai Thi Ngoc Anh (5C student, Van Son Primary School) said: Since having a bookcase in the school garden, my friends and I have been more diligent in reading books. Through stories and comics, we have learned a lot about solidarity, love, and humanity. Magazines like Math for Children, crossword puzzles in Thieu Nien Newspaper, Nhi Dong Newspaper... help us understand more.

Due to limited budget, the investment for buying books is not much, every year, the school encourages students to contribute books to the school's common bookshelf. After studying and reading, the books and storybooks of the students are carefully preserved, and when the donation period comes, they are brought back to the school. This has trained the students to love and preserve books.

Up to now, 35 primary schools in the district have standard libraries, many schools have built good models such as "Mobile bookcase", "School garden library", "Uncle Ho's bookcase", "My beloved bookcase"... In particular, 100% of schools have organized "Book reading festival" for students with the following contents: Art book presentation contest; introducing books, bookcases; telling stories based on books; asking and answering questions about books... creating interest, curiosity, and a desire to explore new books in students.

Mr. Nguyen Tat Tay, Head of the Department of Education of Do Luong district, said: The program has brought about a strong effect. Students not only love reading books but also have activities responding to "say good words, do good deeds" according to the books; parents voluntarily contribute books to enrich the book collection in schools; schools pay more attention and care to the reading culture for students. This is one of the contents of implementing innovation in primary education, aiming at comprehensive education, focusing on personality education and life skills for students...
