(Baonghean) -The recent heavy rains have completely flooded 400ha/7,000ha of summer-autumn rice in Do Luong district, which is in the preparation stage for harvest. The rice harvest in the localities is taking place quickly, quickly pushing the season forward.

Up to this point, in Dang Son commune, rice has been harvested by farmers on over 90% of the area. This summer-autumn crop, the whole commune planted over 110 hectares of rice, mainly Khang Dan variety and a few other main rice varieties. Immediately after receiving the official dispatch directing people to harvest flood-proof rice, the commune urgently disseminated to each hamlet and each household to take advantage of the weather to harvest and immediately harvest rice fields that were 80% or more ripe.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thuan (Hamlet 5) shared: his family has just finished harvesting 3 sao of summer-autumn rice, the yield is over 500 kg, lower than previous years. This year the rain and sunshine are erratic, it took 3 harvests to finish, drying rice and straw is more difficult than previous years.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Chau (Chairman of Dang Son Commune People's Committee) said: This year's summer-autumn crop was damaged by leaf rollers and planthoppers at the beginning of the season. During the harvest season, the rainy weather caused farmers to harvest many times, affecting the average yield. The amount of straw stored as feed for cattle and buffaloes was also much more difficult to preserve. However, farmers went to the fields to harvest rice promptly and neatly, ensuring the progress of winter crop production.

According to the general direction, many localities, due to overcoming the consequences of heavy rains that flooded rice from the beginning of the summer-autumn crop, and then having to re-sow, will harvest flooded rice later. Mr. Tran Dinh Lam (Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Luu Son Commune) said: the whole commune currently has over 185 hectares of summer-autumn rice, the long-term flood completely flooded, losing 40 hectares. At the beginning of the summer-autumn crop, 1/3 of the commune's rice area in some low-lying hamlets such as Tran Phu and Hong Phong was flooded, the commune had to direct re-planting, the harvest time will be 10 days later. Therefore, up to now, about 2/3 of the rice area has been harvested by people, mainly in the hamlets of Phu Tho, Quang Trung, Hong Phong, 1/3 of the area sown later is waiting to be harvested. According to initial estimates, the rice yield reached over 33 quintals/ha, the average rice output of the whole commune reached about 620 tons, lower than last year.

Mr. Le Anh Son (Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture of Do Luong District) said: The district has determined the harvest of flood-prone summer-autumn rice in the area according to the province's guiding principle, harvesting quickly, harvesting as soon as possible, "greener at home than ripe in the fields". The district has thoroughly informed localities that rice can be harvested when it is over 80% ripe to avoid the risk of flooding. Particularly for flood-prone communes, rice can be harvested when it is nearly 75% ripe. Up to this point, in many communes such as Thuong Son, people have completed the harvest of over 330 hectares of flood-prone rice, reaching 100% of the plan, while the communes of Thuan Son, Boi Son, Lam Son, and Ngoc Son are harvesting rice in full swing. The whole district has harvested nearly 50% of the summer-autumn rice area, with an average yield of over 50 quintals/ha.

Do Luong is rushing into the harvest season with a high spirit of determination. It is known that in many communes such as Dai Son, My Son, Tru Son, Thuan Son, after the rice harvest, people have started to prepare the land, make ridges to sow corn and peanuts on fertile land.
