(Baonghean)At its 9th session, the 15th Provincial People's Council passed a resolution approving the Song Dinh Urban Area Project in Quy Hop District, designating it as a type V urban area. This means that the establishment of Song Dinh Town will create momentum for the development of the eastern region of Quy Hop District.

Present at Tan My hamlet, Tam Hop commune, one of the three communes in the Song Dinh town planning area, Mr. Truong Dinh Luat, the hamlet's Party Secretary, said: As one of the first people present since the district's establishment, witnessing the development of this land, he was very happy to hear that the Provincial People's Council recently passed a resolution on the establishment of Song Dinh town. He believes that the establishment of Song Dinh town not only continues history (the 3/2 Agricultural Farm Town was established in 1965 and dissolved in 1995) but also demonstrates the potential of this land and opens up new development opportunities for the cluster of communes in the future.

Indeed, over the past 10 years, the cluster of communes at the Sang Le intersection has experienced very strong development. Businesses have diversified, technical infrastructure has been continuously invested in, and the lives of the people have improved. A key highlight and crucial foundation for the formation of this urban area is the operation of the Nghe An Tate & Lyle sugar mill, which has led to the emergence and development of many new service industries in the area.

The Tuan Nhien auto repair shop in Tan My hamlet, Tam Hop commune, provides employment for 4-5 workers, with an income of 4-5 million VND per person per month.

Since 2008, the project to develop Song Dinh Town has been underway. After five years of surveying, selecting, and finalizing the urban classification plan for Song Dinh, it has been submitted to the Provincial People's Council. Accordingly, the Song Dinh urban planning project basically runs along National Highway 48. From Thai Hoa, starting from the intersection leading to Nghia Hung (Nghia Dan) and ending about 1 km from the Sang Le intersection (Tam Hop commune), the route branches into two sections: National Highway 48C leading to Quy Hop Town and National Highway 48 leading to Quy Chau - Que Phong. Song Dinh urban area has a natural area of ​​473.3 hectares and a population of 7,422 people (as of June 2011), located in 15 hamlets of 3 communes (Nghia Xuan, Tam Hop, and Minh Hop).

Mr. Nguyen Cong Kich, Head of the Internal Affairs Department of the Quy Hop District People's Committee, said: To arrive at the current name "Song Dinh Urban Area," the district's functional agencies and departments conducted very democratic and broad discussions and consultations, starting with meetings of residents in the relevant hamlets to gather opinions, then meetings of officials and key figures in the communes, and the District People's Council for approval. Afterward, the District Party Committee and its Standing Committee gave their opinions. The current name "Song Dinh Urban Area" is the most widely accepted, as it recalls a historical legend from the time when King Le Loi established his military training base in the Bai Tap area, and is said to have built a mansion along this river. Furthermore, the Dinh River runs through the district and has a long history connected to the people of Quy Hop. The recognition of Song Dinh Urban Area as a type 5 urban area is a necessary condition for establishing a town. After the classification results are confirmed, the relevant agencies will proceed with the next steps, such as forming the organizational structure, building the infrastructure, etc.

In fact, with its relatively convenient transportation and commercial market location, Song Dinh Urban Area is not only a hub for supplying and transporting food products from the lowlands to the orange, sugarcane, and rubber growing areas of Quy Hop, Quy Chau, and Que Phong districts, but also a collection point for transporting agricultural products to other markets. This is reflected in the fact that, among the criteria, Song Dinh Urban Area received the highest and near-maximum scores for its urban function and non-agricultural labor force ratio. Among the service industries, transportation is the most developed in the area, with hundreds of trucks operating in the three communes, which will be a promising prospect for the development of repair and mechanical services.

The recognition of Song Dinh Urban Area as a type 5 urban area, and its eventual upgrade to a town, is of great significance for the socio-economic development of the eastern region of Quy Hop district, actively contributing to the socio-economic development of western Nghe An province.
