(Baonghean) -Implementing a cooperation program between the Center for Imperial Citadel Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the National Institute for Heritage Conservation Research in Tokyo, Japan, on August 11 and 12, a delegation of Japanese experts led by Dr. Masahiko TOMODA came to Nghe An to survey and research a number of ancient architectural relics.

A group of Japanese experts are researching Thap Nhan bricks.

During the 2 days, the delegation conducted research at the Nhan Tower relic in Hong Long commune and some other relics. In particular, the delegation had a working session at Nghe An Museum. Here, the delegation focused on researching the relics (mainly bricks) excavated at the Nhan Tower relic, collecting ancient tiles and bricks discovered at the Ho King Temple and some ceramic artifacts from the Ly - Tran dynasties.

Nhan Tower is located in Nhan Thap village, Hong Long commune, Nam Dan district. This is a relic site that was excavated by the Institute of Archaeology in 1985. Relics found include a relic box, some stone, bronze and porcelain objects. At this site, more than 200 bricks of various types decorated with Buddhist motifs used to build Nhan Tower were collected. Research shows that Nhan Tower dates back to the early 7th century.

King Ho Temple is located in Ngoc Son Commune, Quynh Luu District. In 1997, while digging the ground, people discovered a number of ancient bricks and tiles decorated with patterns of Bodhi leaves, dragons and clouds, dragons facing the moon, patterns of lotus petals, and geometric patterns... Through research, these are ancient bricks and tiles dating from the end of the Tran Dynasty and the beginning of the Ho Dynasty.

The content that the expert group is particularly interested in is focusing on research on ancient architectural models and ancient materials. Thereby, contributing to providing more documents to restore ancient architectural models of Nghe An in particular and the whole country in general, especially restoring the architecture of Thang Long Citadel during the Ly - Tran dynasties.

At the end of 2 working days in Nghe An, the expert team from the National Heritage Conservation Research Institute in Tokyo, Japan, said: The existence of an ancient architectural work like the Ho King Temple, especially Nhan Tower in Nghe An is extremely special and rare; it is a valuable source of information to help Japanese researchers supplement their research materials on ancient architectural models in Vietnam.
