(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of August 23, the Ministry of Education and Training delegation led by Professor Pham Vu Luan - Minister of Education and Training had a working session with the Provincial People's Committee on the development of education in Nghe An.

Attending the meeting were comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Dinh Thi Le Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; To Hong Hai - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; representatives of relevant departments and branches.

At the meeting, Ms. Dinh Thi Le Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, briefly reported on a number of issues related to the development of education and training in Nghe An in recent times. Accordingly, up to now, the province has 515 kindergartens, 539 primary schools, 412 secondary schools; 92 high schools and 21 continuing education centers; 480 community learning centers. The province manages 1 university, 3 colleges and 5 vocational colleges.

In recent years, the quality of comprehensive education has been continuously improved: 387/480 wards and communes, 9 districts, cities and towns have met the standards of universalizing preschool education for 5-year-old children; 171/480 wards and communes have universalized primary education for the right age; the quality of universalizing lower secondary education has been maintained.

Up to now, the whole province has 817 schools meeting national standards, reaching a rate of 52.4%. The quality of key education has made remarkable progress: ranked 2nd in the country in the rate of national excellent students; 10 students won medals at the National Math Olympiad for Children. By August 16, 2013, the whole province had 9 valedictorians, 139 students scored 27 points or higher and 52 high schools had students taking university entrance exams with high scores. The conditions for teaching and learning are being cared for.

Currently, the number of teachers above training standards accounts for a high percentage (Preschool: 62.2%; Primary school 88.3%; Secondary school 76.4%; High school 18.2%). School facilities and equipment have been invested in construction with a capital of over 103 billion VND; schools have spent nearly 80 billion VND to buy additional teaching equipment; 131.1 billion VND has been mobilized from socialized sources to upgrade facilities and classrooms. At the meeting, on behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong made recommendations and proposals to the Ministry of Education and Training for support to develop education in the province.

Specifically, prioritize the allocation of capital for the national target program on education and training for the 2012-2015 period for the province; continue to allocate capital for the implementation of the program on solidifying schools for the 2013-2015 period for schools. In the immediate future, it is proposed to allocate capital for the construction of Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School and Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 to put into use soon. The Ministry needs to have specific instructions on the implementation of the project "Building key, high-quality kindergartens and general schools"; create conditions for upgrading colleges to universities according to Resolution 26-NQ/TU of the Politburo; Quickly advise the Prime Minister to approve the project of the 9th National Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2015 for Nghe An to base on for implementation.

Concluding the meeting, Professor Pham Vu Luan, Minister of Education and Training, highly appreciated the province's attention, care and investment in education. Regarding the province's recommendations and proposals, the Minister promised to pay attention and create favorable conditions. Regarding the issue of upgrading colleges to universities, it will be implemented according to the set roadmap, there should be no rush.

In particular, in the process of universalizing preschool education for 5-year-old children, it is necessary to implement it firmly, not chasing after achievements, ensuring that after universalization, the conditions for child care and education must be better than at present. To improve the quality of education, in the coming time, the province needs to take care of and fully implement policies for teachers; strengthen inspection, examination and post-inspection handling; promote the mobilization of socialized education to invest in building adequate, spacious, synchronous and modern facilities.
