At the meeting, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture reported to the delegation on the agricultural production situation of Nghe An that the delegation was interested in. Nghe An has an agricultural land area of 251,202 hectares (including 13,500 hectares of red basalt land), forestry land of 1,178,182 hectares (of which forested land is about 890,000 hectares, non-forested land: 288,182.2 hectares). The total annual planting area is 243,469 hectares. The total output of grain crops is 1,203,574 tons. Nghe An currently has 18,914 hectares of peanuts, with a yield of 22.50 quintals/ha, an output of 42,577 tons; cassava raw materials over 4,000 hectares, a yield of 345 quintals/ha, an output of over 138,000 tons; 29,000 hectares of sugarcane, yield of 612 quintals/ha, output of 1,794,000 tons; 7,766 hectares of tea, of which the commercial tea area is 6,200 hectares, average yield of 116 quintals/ha, output of fresh tea buds is over 71,000 tons; processing over 12,500 tons of dry tea of all kinds; rubber trees have an area of 11,201 hectares, of which the area for products is 5,200 hectares, yield of 12.20 quintals/ha, output of 6,242 tons of dry latex; pineapple trees have 1,200 hectares, yield of 238 quintals/ha, output of 26,125 tons.

Regarding the production of citrus fruits: Nghe An has a total area of 3,000 hectares of citrus trees. Of which, the area for products is 2,500 hectares, the yield is 136 quintals/ha, the output is 34,000 tons. The "Vinh Orange" brand has been affirmed in the market, bringing high value per unit area. The orange growing areas are mainly concentrated in the districts of Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Con Cuong, Tan Ky, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong.

Mr. Motonori Tsuno - Director of JICA Kansai Center (Japan) also informed about the orange production situation in Kansai, Japan, and said that the purpose of the trip was to concretize the cooperation program between the two Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development of the two countries, in which Nghe An and Lam Dong are the two addresses receiving support from JICA.
At the meeting, the Department of Agriculture also proposed to the JICA Kansai delegation some cooperation contents for Nghe An to improve intensive farming techniques, productivity, quality, and improve the designs of agricultural products, especially pest control measures.
