The exam took place in Bali, Indonesia from July 5-13, 2014 with the participation of more than 200 candidates competing in two parts: theory and practice.
The Silver Medal of the Vietnamese delegation belonged to Le Thi Nguyet Hang, grade 11, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Da Nang.
Three Bronze Medals went to Pham Minh Duc (grade 11, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Nam Dinh); Tran Le Quoc Khanh (grade 12, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City) and Dao Trong Doanh (grade 12, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong).
Speaking at the welcoming ceremony on the evening of July 13 in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien affirmed that the medals of the Vietnamese students this year are commendable. In Vietnam, the teaching and learning conditions for Biology are still limited, so the results in international Biology competitions in recent times have not been as high as other subjects. In recent years, along with changes in teaching and learning, especially in team training, students have had more opportunities to practice and experiment, so the international competition results of the Vietnam Biology Olympiad delegation have also achieved better results.
The achievements of the International Biology Olympiad delegation this year have affirmed Vietnam's efforts in teaching and learning Biology and at the same time created the premise for success in both the organization and achievements of the Vietnamese delegation in the 27th International Biology Olympiad that Vietnam hosted in 2016.
On July 14, the Ministry of Education and Training continued to welcome the delegation of students participating in the 2014 International Math Olympiad back home with excellent achievements of 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal./.
