On the afternoon of March 26, within the framework of the visit and working session in Laos from March 24 to 30, the delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam's Ethnic Council led by Vice President Trieu Thi Nai was received by Comrade Saysomphon Phomvihan, Vice President of the National Assembly and Comrade Phanduangchit Vongsa, President of the Lao Front for National Construction.

The Lao leaders gave an overview of the socio-economic situation in Laos as well as the work that the National Assembly and the Lao Front for National Construction are actively preparing for major holidays in 2012 - the Year of Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship. The Lao leaders highly appreciated the cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Laos's Committee for Nationalities in recent times, affirming that Laos attaches great importance to ethnic work and hopes that the two sides will continue to increase the exchange of information and experience, and help each other to improve cultural life, maintain security and order, and fight against forces that undermine national unity.

Ms. Trieu Thi Nai also informed Lao leaders about the results of the talks with the Lao National Assembly's Ethnic Committee, in which both sides expressed their trust in the Party; increased mutual assistance and learning from each other's experiences in policies, planning, support for residential areas, and promotion of hunger eradication and poverty reduction...

The two sides identified 2012 as the “Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year”, so all activities were very practical and closely linked to the celebration of major holidays; proactively proposed policies and solutions to innovate methods and forms of ethnic work to help people, especially in remote areas with many ethnic groups, better understand the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, contributing to promoting the special relationship between the two countries to become increasingly deeper and more sustainable.
