ASEAN reporters learn about Vietnam's press management policy
On the afternoon of August 18, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan received a delegation of ASEAN reporters from Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand.
Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan shared an overview of the Vietnamese press. Accordingly, Vietnam has 850 printed newspapers and magazines, 67 radio and television stations, 100 electronic newspapers, and 1,150 electronic information sites. The number of journalists granted cards by the Ministry of Information and Communications is 18,000. The number of members of the Vietnam Journalists Association is 22,000.
“The Vietnamese press is operating in a very diverse manner, aiming to develop multimedia journalism. According to the plan, by 2020, television in Vietnam will be completely digitalized. A number of press agencies have made large contributions to the State budget, such as Vietnam Television (contributing more than 4,000 billion VND/year), Ho Chi Minh City Television, Binh Duong Television (contributing hundreds of millions of VND) and many print newspapers such as Thanh Nien, Tuoi Tre...,” said Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan.
According to Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan, the Ministry of Information and Communications has conducted many propaganda and communication activities about the ASEAN community such as: organizing photo exhibitions about ASEAN countries and people, organizing ASEAN television reportage contests and ASEAN photo contests, and soon launching an electronic information portal about ASEAN... The general goal of the propaganda activities is for a united, friendly and understanding ASEAN towards a prosperous and developed ASEAN community.

At the meeting, the ASEAN reporters were also provided with information by the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications on issues of interest to the delegation, such as the management policy of the Vietnamese press, especially the Press Law, the implementation of the people's right to access information and freedom of the press; how press agencies in Vietnam retain readers; the impact of the ASEAN economic community on Vietnam, etc.
“During their stay in Vietnam, the journalists and reporters in the delegation will have the opportunity to visit press agencies and learn about the country and people of Vietnam. I believe that with this trip, the ASEAN reporter delegation will have good press works about Vietnam. Through that, they will promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam to the ASEAN community in general and to Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand in particular. You will be the bridge to bring the countries closer together,” Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan added.
