French textile equipment manufacturing companies are very interested in the Vietnamese market and wish to build close cooperation with Vietnamese textile companies for mutual benefit.

Ms. Evelyne Cholet, General Secretary of the Union of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (UCMTF), made the above comment at the Vietnam-France Conference on new technologies for the textile and technical fabric industries held on April 3 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Ms. Evelyne Cholet, UCMTF hopes to have the opportunity to introduce to Vietnamese enterprises the latest French textile technologies. French companies will be reliable partners and are ready to help Vietnamese enterprises take advantage of the benefits brought by the globalization of the textile industry.

In the context of increasingly fierce competition in the world market, French companies still affirm their competitiveness and occupy an important position in the market thanks to many factors such as technological innovation, quality of equipment and services; at the same time, these are also factors that ensure the prestige of French companies in the international market and meet customer needs. Currently, France is the sixth country in the world in exporting textile equipment with an export turnover of 1.2 billion USD/year, with customers in 115 countries.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa said that Vietnam is among the top five textile and garment exporting countries in the world. In recent times, this industry has continuously developed strongly and integrated deeply into the world market.

In addition, in the current multilateral and bilateral negotiations in trade agreements, the Vietnamese Government always focuses on creating favorable conditions for the textile and garment industry to develop and expand its market. The Government is also implementing many solutions to promote investment in weaving, dyeing, specialized techniques, etc. Therefore, the Vietnamese-French business community needs to take advantage of opportunities to exchange experiences and transfer technology to open up cooperative relationships that contribute to increasing the added value of the Vietnamese textile and garment industry, promoting trade relations between the two countries.

Vietnam is not only an attractive destination for foreign investors but also a gateway for many businesses to expand their markets in the ASEAN region.

In the last 10 years, Vietnam's textile and garment industry has grown at an average rate of 10-15% and accounts for about 10% of the country's GDP. In the first quarter of 2014 alone, total textile and garment export turnover reached more than 4.5 billion USD, an increase of 20% compared to the same period last year.
