Unique village well, lim garden of Vu Ky
(Baonghean) - Coming to Vu Ky village, Dong Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, we were taken by the village cadres to see the village well and the lim garden, which the locals boast are the two best in this area.
75 years old (built in 1938), Vu Ky village well is not built of stone and plastered like village wells in other regions but is made of monolithic limestone blocks, which have been carefully carved by the skillful hands of stonemasons, making it very durable and sturdy. The well is nearly 10 m deep, and its mouth is more than 4 m wide.
Vu Ky village well is made of unique monolithic limestone blocks.
After decades of use, many of the well's sub-items were damaged and degraded: the surrounding wall, well yard... but the local people contributed money and effort to restore it many times. The first time was in 1961, the second time in 2005, but the mouth of the well still retains its old features. Mr. Tran Xuan Quyen - Party cell secretary said that this village well used to provide domestic water for the entire Vu Ky village. Over the years, people's material life has improved, family wells, rainwater tanks and tap water have replaced the village well. Therefore, the village well became abandoned, dried up and covered with weeds. Although no longer in use, the village well is still preserved by the people of Vu Ky as a souvenir.
About 500 meters away is a garden of lim trees hundreds of years old, with some trees tens of meters high, with trunks that two people cannot hug. In the lim garden, there is also a temple inscribed as a temple to the Lord, built in 1680, that is, 332 years ago. In front of the temple is a missile command bunker of our army during the resistance war against the US (in 1966). The lim garden is inscribed as "a souvenir lim garden planted by Mr. Luong Dich in 1844" - 179 years ago. The people there said that because this temple is sacred, no one dares to destroy the lim garden.
However, for many generations, this temple has not been restored. It is thought that the local government and functional agencies need to pay attention to investing in restoring the temple and protecting the lim garden to meet the wishes of the people of Vu Ky.
