These days, Mr. Dinh Viet Ky's family (Hamlet 7 Dien Thai) is still busy harvesting coriander to sell to traders. Mr. Ky is one of the first households to grow coriander in the commune. He said: "Previously, my family grew fruit trees but did not achieve high productivity, however, when converting rice land to coriander, it brought great success. There was a time when coriander was up to 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, each day the family also earned more than 300,000 VND from selling this vegetable."
As one of the pioneers in making coriander a popular crop in the commune, Mr. Ky has experience in taking care of this vegetable. He said that coriander is very easy to grow and care for, especially it is less affected by the weather and rarely gets pests. This is a herbaceous plant, short in height and tolerant to drought, so it can be intercropped with other crops and perennials. This method not only saves fertilizer and pesticides, takes advantage of the production land area but also increases income. In hot weather like this, it is necessary to shade, water and keep the plants moist. Therefore, Mr. Ky has built a trellis to cool the coriander, prevent the heat for vegetables in the summer and increase watering.

Another very prominent feature is that coriander is not cultivated seasonally, people harvest all year round so the supply to the market is very abundant. With the current market price of 7,000 VND - 10,000 VND/kg, Dien Thai people have an income of 200 - 300 thousand VND/day.
Currently, the total agricultural land area of Dien Thai commune is 375 hectares, of which the land for growing coriander is only 10 hectares, accounting for 3% of the cultivated land, mainly grown in the gardens of each household, but it is a plant that brings higher income than other vegetables. Coriander appeared in the area since 2001, however, at that time it was only planted sporadically, not widely propagated and the consumption market was not high. Since 2011, people have started to grow a lot because they saw the great economic efficiency. Currently, the hamlets that grow the most coriander are hamlets 7, hamlets 6, hamlets 1, hamlets 3. Growing coriander requires enough warmth but also fast drainage and heat protection for the plants.
Mr. Cao Van Huyen, Head of the Agricultural Extension Department of Dien Thai Commune, said, “Coriander is a vegetable grown mainly in the commune, bringing high economic efficiency, with revenue reaching about 100 million VND/ha, 3 times higher than rice cultivation. Coriander requires little care but can be harvested all year round, so people always have a regular income. Most of the coriander is imported for traders to bring to Vinh city for consumption.”
Coriander is a very popular vegetable on the market, can be used as a spice in many dishes such as beef, sour soup, fish soup, herbs... and also has the effect of curing many diseases such as pain relief, flu, bedwetting in children...
