(Baonghean) - The 68th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 is an opportunity for us to review historical traditions and understand more deeply the truth of Uncle Ho: "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom." The success of the August Revolution opened a new era for the Vietnamese nation: the era of independence, freedom and socialism.
After the reunification of the country, the entire nation united under the leadership of the Party to "rebuild our country to be more beautiful and more dignified" as Uncle Ho's Testament left. The period of renovation opened up great prospects for the development of Vietnam; but from here, the issue of national independence posed new requirements of the times.
The Vietnamese revolutionary path that the Party and Uncle Ho chose was to gain national independence and move towards socialism. After 27 years of implementing the cause of renovation, that path has not changed. However, in the period of national renovation, national independence has higher requirements than before. In the context of the current complicated international situation, national independence is expressed in the steadfast stance on the path to socialism. Only that path can maintain the revolutionary achievements that our people have achieved in 30 years of struggle under the leadership of the Party.
National independence is first and foremost expressed in the independence and autonomy of the Party's platform and policies, without dependence on any political force. This is the highest requirement of national independence in the cause of innovation. In a "multipolar" world with many different political trends, our Party firmly maintains the stance of "innovation but not changing direction, integration but not dissolution", which is a manifestation of the spirit of national independence.
With the policy of developing a socialist-oriented market economy, international integration, national independence is not only limited to the scope of the political regime but also related to economic fields. Although the world economy is globalized in a "flat world", the nature of capitalism remains unchanged. In the cooperative relationship with Vietnam, the forces representing capitalism always use economic leverage to pressure Vietnam to change its political regime. Therefore, in economic development, Vietnam has both expanded international cooperation to create resources for national construction and firmly maintained its stance of national independence and maintained its political regime.
Our Party implements the foreign policy of “independence, self-reliance, openness, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations in the spirit that Vietnam wants to be friends with all countries in the world community, striving for peace, independence and development” (Resolution of the 8th Party Congress). With that foreign policy, Vietnam has created a favorable environment for economic development while maintaining national independence, political stability, and ensuring national defense and security.
In the process of renovation, to maintain national independence, we must have the spirit of economic self-reliance. If we do not promote the spirit of self-reliance to accelerate economic development and improve competitiveness in the world market, Vietnam will be under pressure in economic relations. Economic independence is an important requirement of national independence in the renovation period. In the current international relations of both struggle and cooperation, political independence must go hand in hand with economic independence to ensure territorial sovereignty. We must harmoniously resolve the relationship between economics and politics; economic integration must not affect political stability, but on the contrary, we must innovate the political system to create favorable conditions for economic integration. Only then can national independence be maintained and the country develop.
In the struggle for national liberation, our people had to sacrifice blood and bones to gain independence and freedom. In the cause of renovation, our people must promote the spirit of self-reliance, build an increasingly rich and powerful country "standing shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the five continents" (Uncle Ho's words) so that no force can violate the independence and freedom of the nation.
