Malaysian wild boars of Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien's farm, Quang Phong Ward, Thai Hoa town, are being prepared for sale to serve the Tet market. |
Up to this point, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien's farm is the largest wild boar farm in the entire Northwest region of Nghe An. Ms. Tien invested over 1 billion VND to buy B40 steel mesh to fence over 1,500 m2, and invested in a system of barns to raise wild boars. The farm has 30 sows, each year giving birth to over 650 pigs/2 litters. From October to Lunar New Year, Ms. Tien has prepared specialty pigs for sale.

Wild boars at Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien's farm are fed natural vegetables and grass, so the meat quality is delicious. |
Currently, she has just sold 150 pigs, each weighing 12-15 kg, selling for 120,000 VND/kg, mainly purchased by traders in Thanh Hoa. Ms. Tien added: From now until Tet, there are still over 220 pigs left, but all have been ordered by customers. Just from raising this special type of pig, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien earns an annual revenue of over 1 billion VND.
It is known that in the whole Thai Hoa town, there is only one wild boar farm owned by Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien. According to Ms. Tien, the output for pigs is easy to consume, but the current difficulty is that the farm does not have a preferential loan policy from the State. Ms. Tien is in dire need of preferential loans to upgrade the barn.

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Phuc in Vinh Thanh, Dong Van, Tan Ky takes care of a herd of Thai wild boars. |
At Mr. Nguyen Nhu Phuc's wild boar farm in Vinh Thanh hamlet, Dong Van, Tan Ky, is the first farm to raise Thai wild boars. In 2010, Mr. Phuc started raising wild boars. Seeing that this was an effective job, we expanded it. The initial profit reached 35-40 million VND/year, which is already a high income compared to farming.
However, seeing on the mass media that the Thai wild boar breed has high economic efficiency, I went to Ho Chi Minh City to learn and in 2013 bought 8 wild boars, including 7 sows and 1 male, all of Thai breed. Each year, 7 sows give birth to over 100 pigs/2 litters. To serve the Tet market, Mr. Phuc has to "adjust" the litters of breeding pigs to reproduce earlier.
On this occasion, Mr. Phuc has nearly 100 wild boars to serve Tet, about 15-17 kg/pig with an average price of 170,000 VND/kg, not to mention about 20 local piglets, the total annual income reaches over 300 million VND. Tan Ky area currently has over 25 households raising wild boars. Most of them are raised spontaneously, the district has only supported funding for training on care procedures.

Visiting Mr. Ho Viet Minh's family in Bai So village, Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong, Mr. Minh was happily feeding the wild boars and said: Currently, the family has 10 piglets, we often "steer" the breeding time to serve the Tet market, about 50 pigs. The number of pigs to serve Tet has been "ordered" by customers in the lowlands for a month now. The weight of the wild boars serving Tet has reached over 12 kg/head, raised close to Tet, reaching 15-16 kg/head. The price on normal days is 120,000 VND/kg, the price close to Tet is 150,000 VND/kg. To have the above number of pigs, we had to spend a lot of effort to select and breed, care for them properly with the right techniques so that the pigs have the best quality meat.
