A few words about Nghe An Fine Arts

November 27, 2011 16:37

(Baonghean.vn) Over the past ten years (2000 - 2010), Nghe An Fine Arts Association has sent an average of 250 works to the fourth region exhibition, among which the number of authors and works winning awards from the central to local levels is not small. It is enough to know that the artistic labor of you brothers and sisters is trustworthy!

Let me point out some typical authors in that not without bumpy creative process. Painter Tran Hoang Trung, who has a wealth of experience and creative challenges, is faithful to the oil painting medium. After years of non-stop activities and quite unique successes from painting propaganda paintings to works on the theme of resistance, he returned to the reality of life in the hard-working and difficult countryside, awakening in him the simple but painful memories of his childhood. These are a series of oil paintings: "Song Lam" (I,2,3), "Fishing Village", "Dong Echo", "Cua Quen", "Love of the Sea",... Many fates around fishing villages, salty waves and storms are updated by the author. In general, among the faces of Nghe An painting in the first decade of the 21st century, a sincere and plump Tran Hoang Trung still stands out. However, somewhere we still see too much austerity and a lack of poetic view of life.

"Making a living" - oil painting by artist Tran Hoang Trung

Sculptor Dao Phuong (deceased), we knew very early through the works "Haircut", "Doi ban", "Doi",... He was present in Nghe An in the early 1970s of the 20th century, was a core artist of the Fine Arts movement of the province, the discoverer of new talents for the province. During the fierce days of the destructive war of the American invaders in the North in Nghe An, he devoted his whole life to art, leaving behind hundreds of large and small sculptures. As I know, Dao Phuong is a talent that has not been properly evaluated, and many of his works are still lost, there needs to be a plan to preserve them before it is too late.

Artist Ho Thiet Trinh delves into the theme of revolutionary war as a tribute. His explorations with a strong, soulful brushwork and sweet, elegant strokes, both condensed and free-flowing on Do paper, create woodcut paintings imbued with folk and modern qualities: “The Campaign Road”, “The Aspiration of Loi Village”

These works have opened up a vast space imbued with profound humanity, with highly generalized character images of a glorious and painful historical period of the nation.

In the collection of painter Tieu Cao Son (deceased), there are more than 44 works of oil painting, gouache, do paper and hundreds of illustrations, sketches, logos, sketches of monuments... However, in the practice of creation, he got lost in a "maze" of colors, shapes and occasionally we encounter somewhere a bit of Nguyen Tu Nghiem, a bit of Bui Xuan Phai... Through the list of works that won awards from the Vietnam Fine Arts AssociationMaleIn area 4, in the last years of his life, his paintings were just reaching their peak. These were “Forest Tears”, “Planting Rice Under the Moon”…

In the same generation as us, artist Hai Tho matured early, joining the “main force” of the Culture - Information sector. The hard work and enthusiasm gave him a sharp perspective. He enthusiastically dug, copied and to some extent he recognized what was needed to create a work of art, between the virtual and the real. Many of the works include: “Come back, my elephant” (Wood carving).

Sculptor Tran Minh Chau, who was successful with “We Come Again”, a woodcut painting from the time when the whole country fought against the Americans. He is a person who is sincere with his profession, patient, hardworking and meticulous. A series of plaster reliefs, terracotta, and monumental works (with a group of sculptors and painters from Nghe An) create the grandeur, solidity, and majestic beauty of monumental areas, memorial areas for leaders... His 40 years of artistic activities, with many hardships, are enough for us to respect an author!

Painter Nguyen Dinh Truyen, a young artist, has matured and become sensitive. In his woodcuts and papercuts, he has revealed a fresh, flexible quality, from lines, shapes, and blocks, there is something like freedom, not yet satisfied with things that cannot be expressed.

And authors such as Nguyen Huu Di, Ngo Phi Cong, Ngoc Duong, Nguyen Thi Loi, Tran Nghien... each with their own style have contributed to the province's fine arts treasure.

In a short article, it is impossible to tell all the successes as well as the limitations that need to be overcome by our artist colleagues. Please forgive us!

There are many concerns about the young generation in Nghe An today. They are people who have been trained systematically in universities and colleges. Looking at the works of young artists displayed in exhibitions in the region, we see that their works have not gone beyond the lessons learned at school. Many young people want to break out to find something new, but they have not yet measured their own strength. So, when will the "gap" in Nghe An's art playground be filled?
