Tortoiseshell weighing more than 100kg washed up dead on the beach

(Baonghean.vn) - A dead hawksbill turtle that washed ashore was brought ashore and buried by fishermen on the morning of February 2.

On the morning of February 2, 2015, Mr. Ho Dinh Xich - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Nghia commune (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An) said that the hawksbill turtle was discovered by fishermen at around 4:00 p.m. on February 1 at Quynh Nghia beach.

According to Mr. Xich, the hawksbill weighed about 100kg and had a shell length of more than 1m. “The hawksbill was discovered yesterday afternoon, February 1st, and it was dead. This morning, local authorities and people buried the hawksbill.”

According to Mr. Xich, this is the first time a dead hawksbill has been found drifting ashore in Quynh Nghia. To avoid polluting the environment, this morning the commune authorities and local people buried the hawksbill.
