(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of May 23, Steering Committee 515 of Nghe An province held a ceremony to welcome the Martyrs' Remains Collection Team to carry out the task of searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos during the 2023-2024 dry season back to Vietnam.

Attending the ceremony were Colonel Hoang Tuan Hien - Deputy Director of the Policy Department, General Department of Politics, Deputy Chief of Office of the National Steering Committee 515, Standing Office of the Government's Special Working Group; Comrade Nguyen Duy Nghia - Deputy Director of the Department of Meritorious People, Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs; Comrade Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515; Colonel Nguyen Ky Hong - Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515.

In the dry season of 2023 - 2024, the Martyrs' Remains Collection Team of Nghe An Provincial Military Command was assigned the task of searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane and Xay Som Bun (Lao PDR).

During the implementation of the mission in Laos, the officers and staff of the Martyrs' Remains Collection Team encountered many difficulties, especially the rugged terrain, with little information about graves, mainly located in remote, mountainous areas; the exploitation of information about martyrs' graves is increasingly scarce.

With deep affection for heroes and martyrs, officers and staff of the Martyrs' Remains Collection Team under the Nghe An Provincial Military Command searched for and recovered 87 remains of martyrs who died in Laos. Of these, 75 remains were found in Xieng Khouang province; 3 remains were found in Vientiane and 9 remains were found in Xay Som Bun.

During the process of carrying out the task of searching for and collecting martyrs' remains, the Nghe An Province Martyrs' Remains Collection Team has performed well in national defense diplomacy. In particular, the team has coordinated to help local people with medical examination and treatment, providing free medicine, repairing cultural houses, cleaning roads, repairing water pipes, giving dry food, etc.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the provincial leaders, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515 Bui Dinh Long sincerely thanked the attention and direction of the National Steering Committee 515; Head of the Military Region 4 Command; Steering Committee 515 and agencies of Military Region 4 for sharing and encouraging officers and employees of the Collection Team of the Provincial Military Command to perform the task of searching and collecting martyrs' remains in Laos to return to Vietnam in the dry season of 2023-2024. At the same time, he thanked the coordination and cooperation of units and localities and hoped to continue to receive attention, support and assistance in the coming time so that the work of searching and collecting martyrs' remains in the province will be more effective.

On this occasion, leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, the Military Region 4 Command, the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Provincial Military Command presented gifts and encouraged officers and employees of the Collection Team who had completed the task of searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos and returned to Vietnam in the dry season of 2023-2024.
