8th Vietnam-India Defense Strategy Dialogue

On November 8, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Indian Ministry of Defense held the 8th Vietnam-India Defense Strategic Dialogue.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh and Indian Deputy Minister of National Defense Radha Krishna Mathur co-chaired the dialogue.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh emphasized that over the years, the relationship between Vietnam and India has grown. The two sides have shared strategic interests as well as challenges in ensuring national security and defense.

The Deputy Minister expressed that this Vietnam-India Defense Strategic Dialogue will contribute to further strengthening defense cooperation between Vietnam and India for peace, friendship, and the interests of the two countries, contributing to regional peace.

Indian Deputy Minister of Defense Radha Krishma Mathur affirmed that defense dialogues between India and Vietnam have actively contributed to the development of bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries.

There are many similarities between Vietnam and India, the two sides share many benefits as well as common challenges. The vision of both sides to develop defense between the two countries, brings common benefits to the two nations.

Deputy Minister Radha Krishna said that the cooperative relationship with Vietnam is one of the pillars of India's Look East policy. India always values ​​and increasingly expands multilateral cooperation, especially bilateral defense cooperation with Vietnam.

At this Vietnam-India Defense Strategy Dialogue, the two sides exchanged and shared views on issues and situations in the region and the world; discussed and reached agreements on developing defense cooperation between the two countries.

India shared information on the security and defense situation in the region as well as India's concerns about resolving issues in the East Sea and Asia, emphasizing the resolution of East Sea issues through peaceful negotiations, calling on parties to comply with international conventions, the 1982 Law of the Sea, etc.

Vietnam welcomes India's stance on resolving maritime issues, and highly appreciates and hopes that India will promote its role and contribute to maintaining peace and security in the region and the world; and hopes that India will closely coordinate with Vietnam in regional and world forums.

Leaders of the Vietnamese and Indian Ministries of Defense discussed measures to promote cooperation between the two sides, focusing on areas such as increasing high-level meetings between the two countries' Ministries of Defense, cooperation in personnel training, naval cooperation, expanding cooperation in the air force, promoting cooperation in defense industry development, etc.

Vietnam hopes India will share its experience and train Vietnamese forces to prepare to join the United Nations peacekeeping force in the coming time.

At the end of the 8th Vietnam-India Defense Strategic Dialogue, leaders of the two Defense Ministries signed the minutes of the meeting.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Radha Krishma Mathur also sent her deepest condolences to the Party, Government, Ministry of National Defense and people of Vietnam on the passing of General Vo Nguyen Giap./.
