Vietnam and Singapore Defense Policy Dialogue
On the morning of July 22, at the Ministry of National Defense Headquarters, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation, and Mr. Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Defense, Head of the Singaporean Delegation, co-chaired the Vietnam-Singapore Defense Policy Dialogue.

At the dialogue, the two sides said that defense cooperation in recent times has had positive developments, especially in the fields of delegation exchanges and naval cooperation.
The two sides suggested that in the coming time, the Vietnam-Singapore defense cooperation relationship needs to be strengthened and deepened to match the strategic partnership between the two countries, focusing on delegation exchanges; maintaining the deputy ministerial dialogue mechanism; sharing information, experience, and support in the field of building the United Nations peacekeeping force; military medical cooperation; and consultation and coordination in multilateral forums.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh thanked Singapore for helping Vietnam in the process of modernizing its army, especially in the fields of foreign language training, peacekeeping operations, and search and rescue; and suggested that the two countries' defense ministries should develop a three-year long-term cooperation plan to more effectively implement the defense cooperation contents that the two sides have agreed upon.
During the dialogue, the two sides discussed a number of East Sea issues and agreed that disputes must be resolved by peaceful means, in compliance with international law; at the same time, they emphasized the need to promote solidarity as well as ASEAN's central role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
