“The subject was carrying a mobile phone and a piece of paper with an IS flag printed on it and a handwritten statement in Arabic,” the prosecutor described.
The incident occurred on the day France marked the first anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper office in Paris that killed 12 people.
Previously, French authorities said on January 7 that the suspect who attacked a police station in northern Paris was wearing a fake bomb belt.
According to the same source, when he attacked the police station in the Goutte d'Or area, this man shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great). The police opened fire and shot this man dead.
Immediately after the incident, the area was blocked off.
The Goutte d'Or region is home to a large immigrant population. The Islamic State group claimed after the Paris massacre last November that it was planning an attack there.
