(Baonghean.vn) – With the main idea of “Being active, proactive, responding quickly, effectively and implementing well the motto “4 on-site”, the Border Guard Station of Cua Lo – Ben Thuy port is ready for the storm season.

In the last days of May, when the weather was hot, officers and soldiers of the Border Guard Station of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port were repairing and renovating houses and barracks. In the warehouse area, a team was checking the quality of life buoys, life jackets as well as tools and equipment for storm and flood prevention and search and rescue.

Officers and soldiers of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy port border guard station are ready for rescue work.

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Thanh Tan - Political Commissar of the station said: The unit is responsible for managing and protecting the 26 km long coastline and 2 seaports (Cua Lo port, Ben Thuy), 2 specialized ports (Nghi Huong and Hung Hoa petroleum ports), with 11 wards and communes (4 communes of Nghi Loc district, 7 wards of Cua Lo town). The number of boats in the area is 353 vehicles/1494 workers (including 27 offshore vehicles with large capacity). Where the unit is located close to the estuary and coast, every year 5-6 storms cause damage to houses, fields, vehicles, production, affecting the material and spiritual life of soldiers and people... Being at the forefront of the waves and winds, we have also determined to always be ready to participate in rescue and relief to reduce damage caused by natural disasters. The Party Committee and the Station Command have a resolution and a specialized plan to lead the unit in disaster prevention and mitigation and search and rescue. Regularly organize rescue drills for all officers and soldiers; prepare and purchase necessary tools; Have plans to coordinate with forces and functional agencies stationed in Cua Lo town and Nghi Loc district; At the same time, reserve food, fuel for cars, motorbikes, rescue boats, etc.

With the main idea of "Being active, proactive, responding quickly, effectively and implementing well the motto "4 on-site" in 2011 and the first months of this year, the unit has organized and participated in 6 rescue cases with 26 officers and soldiers participating, resulting in saving 4 vehicles/10 people (1 case of sinking fishing boat of Nghi Hai ward; 1 case of sinking boat of Thanh Hoa fishermen in Cua Lo area; 1 case of broken boat of Ha Tinh fishermen; 1 case of Thanh Hoa boat having an accident at Lo estuary; 1 case of Tien Giang 16 ship on the way to Cua Lo port sank fishing boat of Nghi Thiet commune fishermen; 1 case of Lam Hong 45 ship and collided with Bac 2 hamlet ship). At the same time, promote propaganda, sign commitments for tourist transport vehicles. Including preventing and making records to handle 14 vehicles that did not ensure maritime safety while transporting 154 tourists to Ngu island. The unit also coordinated With local agencies and departments, the rescue team at Cua Lo tourist beach during the tourist season and storm season resulted in 16 officers and soldiers joining forces to rescue 8 sailors of the Hoang Trung 08 ship.

In addition, the standing unit is ready to prevent storms, especially storms No. 1; No. 2, No. 3. Called on more than 1,500 local vessels operating at sea to safely avoid storms. Organized anchoring to ensure security and order for 1,938 vehicles/9,690 crew members for local fishermen, and organized and arranged anchoring for 525 vehicles/3,115 crew members from outside the province to work and avoid storms.

However, in addition to the achieved results, they also have some concerns, because the equipment and means serving the PCLB-TKCN tasks of the unit are not commensurate with the requirements of the task. In particular, ensuring the means for rescue operations in conditions of big waves and strong winds. And the means of communication with offshore fishing vessels (Icom communication devices)...

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Hai Binh - Station Chief, the rainy and stormy season is approaching, in order to make rescue, disaster prevention and mitigation work more effective in the coming time, it is recommended that all levels and sectors, especially Cua Lo Town, need to speed up the construction of mooring docks for offshore fishing boats in the area, because currently when storms occur, boats in the area still lack safe mooring places. At Cua Hoi creek, some households release bottom traps, affecting traffic and ensuring safety for boats entering and exiting. At the same time, training and exercises should be strengthened to improve capacity and effectiveness in coordination between relevant forces.
