Southern amateur music is a Vietnamese folk music genre that was formed and developed in the late 19th century, originating from ceremonial music, Hue royal court music and folk literature.
Don ca tai tu is a typical folk art form of the Southern region.
Don ca tai tu is the art of playing instruments and singing, sung by common people, young men and women in the countryside of the South after working hours.
Don ca tai tu is a performance art with a band consisting of 4 instruments: the zither, the co, the zither and the monochord (called the four absolutes). Later, it was innovated by replacing the monochord with a guitar with concave frets.
Most of the people who participate in traditional music are friends and neighbors. They gather to share this elegant hobby so they are not usually too particular about their attire./.
