Celebrating the full moon of July of Thai people in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) -The Thai people in Nghe An do not call it Vu Lan or filial piety day, but simply the 15th of the 7th lunar month. This is an occasion for the whole family to gather around the ancestral altar and is also a rare happy occasion of the year.
According to Dr. Vi Van An, an Ethnologist, this custom only exists in the Tay Muoi group in Nghe An. They are originally from the Kinh people who migrated and then changed their surname. In the Thai Tay Thanh, Tay Muoi groups... of indigenous origin, there is no custom of eating the full moon of the seventh lunar month.
The custom of celebrating the full moon of the Thai people in some districts of Nghe An also has differences according to the clan. Some clans celebrate the full moon in June, while others celebrate it in August (not the Mid-Autumn Festival).
Here are some pictures of the Full Moon Festival custom of the Thai people in Con Cuong (Nghe An):
The patriarch is the one who performs the ceremony. Before serving the food, the patriarch reads a long prayer, inviting the ancestors to celebrate the full moon with their descendants.
