Celebrating the Full Moon of the Seventh Month in Nghe An Province by the Thai People
(Baonghean.vn) -The Thai people in Nghe An don't call it the Vu Lan Festival or the Day of Filial Piety, but simply the Full Moon of the Seventh Month. This is an occasion for the whole family to gather around the ancestral altar and is also a rare joyous occasion in the year.
According to ethnologist Dr. Vi Van An, this custom is only found among the Tay Muoi group in Nghe An. They originally came from Kinh people who migrated there and then changed their surnames. The Thai Tay Thanh, Tay Muoi, and other indigenous groups do not have the custom of celebrating the full moon of the seventh lunar month.
The custom of celebrating the full moon festival among the Thai people in some districts of Nghe An province also varies depending on the clan. Some clans celebrate the full moon festival in June, while others organize it in August (not the Mid-Autumn Festival).
Here are some images of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration of the Thai people in Con Cuong (Nghe An):

The clan chief is the one who performs the ritual. Before the feast is served, the clan chief recites a long prayer, inviting the ancestors to join their descendants in celebrating the full moon festival.
The full moon day is bustling and lively.
