Watch the lunar eclipse in the early morning of April 26

In the early morning of April 26, Vietnamese astronomy enthusiasts can observe a partial lunar eclipse.

The above information was shared by Mr. Dang Vu Tuan Son, Head of the Vietnam Young Astronomy Club (VACA) on April 15.

This is also the second astronomical event in April that can be observed in Vietnam. However, in the minor meteor shower event called Lyrids, astronomy enthusiasts may be disappointed because the moonlight will obstruct the view.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Tuan Son said that the upcoming partial lunar eclipse is also very small. That means only a very small part of the moon enters the Earth's shadow and turns dark red, the rest is in the penumbra, so it only turns light red (penumbral eclipse).

The head of VACA also said that, unlike other lunar eclipses observed in Vietnam in recent years, this lunar eclipse took place after midnight. According to NASA's calculations (converted to Vietnam time), the penumbral lunar eclipse will begin at 1:03 a.m., the partial lunar eclipse will begin at 2:54 a.m., and the maximum will be at 3:07 a.m. The partial lunar eclipse will end at 3:21 a.m. and the penumbral lunar eclipse will end at 5:11 a.m.

“At this time, there are fewer city lights and the air is fresher, so if there are no clouds, observers will have a better chance of seeing the moon's surface,” said Mr. Son.

The lunar eclipse is safe for the eyes, so observers only need to look at the moon with the naked eye during the above mentioned time frame and do not need any supporting tools. However, if you have binoculars or a small telescope, you can see it more clearly./.
