(Baonghean.vn) – The Khmu people in Nghe An have their own Tet holiday, called 'Gơ Rơ'. On this important holiday, rice wine is an indispensable drink. Therefore, before December (lunar calendar), the Khmu people prepare the best jars of rice wine to celebrate Tet.
The traditional New Year of the Khmu people in Nghe An usually takes place at the end of November (lunar calendar). And on this important holiday, there is no lack of Ruou Can. |
Leaf yeast is the most important ingredient for making Can wine. This yeast is crushed and mixed with sticky rice, broken rice and rice husks, then left to ferment. |
After fermenting for 2 - 4 days (depending on weather conditions), the mixture is put into a sealed container. |
The work of making wine depends on the hands of women. |
When brewing wine, you must make sure the rice continues to ferment without clogging the tap when drinking. |
The wine taps are also very elaborately made from a small bamboo tube. |
After each use, these taps are hung in the kitchen to maintain their durability. |
Sometimes the wine tap is kept in a sacred place in the kitchen of the Khmu people. |
Preparing for Tet Go Ro, every Khmu person has 5-7 jars of rice wine in their house. |
Khmu women have the duty to prepare rice wine to worship their ancestors. |
What's special is that during Tet Go Ro, when drinking Ruou Can, there is always a person holding a buffalo horn singing Tom, pouring and inviting people, and "keeping the rhythm" for the fun. |
Each buffalo horn poured out is 1 round of wine. |
Khmu women are also very proficient in drinking rice wine during Tet. |
