Mong people in Nghe An grow white garlic that meets standards for export to Japan

(Baonghean.vn) - These days, more than 20 Mong households in Na Ngoi (Ky Son) are harvesting Japanese garlic with excitement as the finished product is superior in both quality and yield.

As members of the Youth Volunteer Team 10 based in Na Ngoi (Ky Son), the Mong ethnic households here have boldly approached many types of crops and modern, effective farming methods. In addition to the area of ​​clean vegetables grown according to VietGAP process, in October 2017, the people joined the Team to expand the area of ​​​​growing Japanese white garlic on an area of ​​1,200 m2terraced rice fields

Farmers strictly followed the growing process according to Japanese standards. After nearly 6 months, the garlic was harvested with a result considered a "miracle" on Ky Son land when the weight of the garlic reached an average of 100g/bulb, the diameter of the bulb was from 5 - 7.5 cm (nearly 4 to 5 times higher than normal garlic). In particular, the garlic was dense, fragrant, and had high nutritional content.

After conducting a survey, Japanese experts highly appreciated the quality and productivity of white garlic grown in Ky Son, and affirmed that this product fully meets the standards for export to the Japanese market. Currently, harvested garlic is still sent to Japan for research on pests and diseases to optimize the source of seeds and product quality.

After the above success, many cooperatives in Ky Son area such as Muong Xen, Tay Son, Nam Can... also came to learn the model to conduct trial planting in their area.

This is also the orientation of Ky Son district to create stable livelihoods for ethnic minorities and increase long-term production value.

In the coming time, Ky Son district will coordinate with investors to closely link with local General Teams and Cooperatives to transfer techniques as well as expand the garlic growing area to 300 hectares.

From there, a specialized production area for white garlic was formed, linked with Japan to create stable output for the people./.
