Comrade Le Hong Anh inspected flood recovery in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of October 29, Comrade Le Hong Anh, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, and the Central working delegation had a working session with the leaders of Nghe An province on the situation of overcoming the consequences caused by storms No. 10 and 11 in the locality. Receiving and working with the delegation, on the side of Nghe An province were comrades Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Tran Hong Chau - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, comrades members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee, leaders of provincial departments and branches.

According to the report of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, storms No. 10 and 11 killed 6 people, seriously injured 2 people, collapsed 32 houses, flooded 31,605 houses, damaged 14 boats, 232 cars and construction machinery, 22,026.9 hectares of agricultural and aquatic production area. The estimated economic loss was 1,691.7 billion VND. Although Party committees, authorities at all levels and local people have made efforts to overcome the consequences caused by storms and floods, many infrastructure works such as transportation, irrigation, schools, clinics, electricity and water... were seriously damaged.

To continue restoring production, repairing essential works, and stabilizing people's production, Nghe An province proposed that the central government urgently support disinfectants, rice, and funds to repair people's infrastructure, about 400 billion VND; support 2.5 billion VND for Hoang Mai town and Quynh Luu district to repair damaged and flooded facilities. In addition, the province also proposed that the central government support funding and allocate capital to repair and ensure the safety of dams and reservoirs, restore traffic works, of which the most urgent is 58 suspension bridges across rivers and streams; allocate capital for the province to continue implementing key flood and storm prevention projects, especially upgrading two main national highways, National Highway 7 and National Highway 8 to Laos; build shelters for boats and ships, etc.

At the meeting, Nghe An provincial leaders also proposed that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment consider increasing the number of hydrological measuring stations in sub-regions with large reservoirs; the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development build a project to protect the downstream areas of large dams with flood scenarios when emergency flood discharge or dam failure occurs because Nghe An is a region with complex climate and frequent natural disasters.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Le Hong Anh acknowledged the efforts of Nghe An province in preventing and overcoming the consequences caused by storms No. 10 and 11 in the area. He suggested that the province continue to direct all levels and sectors to focus on overcoming the consequences of storms and floods; increase forces, means, and materials to restore facilities, essential infrastructure, handle environmental sanitation, provide medicine, and secondary equipment to ensure health care for the people. In addition, Nghe An province needs to focus on mobilizing local resources and taking advantage of resources to support people in overcoming the consequences of floods, soon stabilizing production and life.
Regarding Nghe An's proposals and recommendations to overcome the damage caused by storms No. 10 and 11, comrade Le Hong Anh noted that he will report to the Politburo and request that central ministries and branches consider and resolve them.
