Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance is considered a "top" school, but this year's enrollment is also poor: The school's enrollment target is 1,000 (University: 650; College: 350) but by November 30, only 200 students were recruited. Talking to NTNN, Mr. Hoang Duc Hai - Vice Principal said: "This school year, the school will close at least 3 majors."
Similarly, Gia Dinh University of Information Technology only recruited 50% of the candidates compared to the set target of 650. Tay Do University (Can Tho) has up to 3,000 targets but has only recruited more than 1,500. Cuu Long University is short of more than 1,000 targets... Most seriously, Tan Tao University (Long An) only has 30 candidates admitted while the total target this year is 500.
Local universities are also preparing to close some majors: Hue University Branch in Quang Tri may close majors: Environmental Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, and Cartography Engineering because only 2-3 candidates are admitted, compared to the enrollment target of 50 (1 class). Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry has to conduct the 4th enrollment round this year, but some majors such as crop cultivation, aquaculture, natural resources and environmental management still have no candidates and must close...
In the Central Highlands, all schools were allowed by the Ministry of Education and Training to apply Article 33 of the Admission Regulations but were still unable to enroll. Of which, Da Lat University was only able to enroll 1,500 students (out of a total of 2,500), Yersin University Da Lat was able to enroll 300 students (out of a total of 900) and had to close 3 majors: Biotechnology, Environment and Tourism.
