Earthquakes continue to strike several Pacific islands

The US Geological Survey said a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the Samoa Islands at 6:18 a.m. on May 2, Hanoi time. The epicenter was 16.80 km deep.

More than an hour later, at 7:44 a.m., another earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale occurred on the island of Vanuatu, with the epicenter at a depth of 270.90 km.

Earlier, at 11:12 p.m. on May 1, Hanoi time, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Bougainville region of Papua New Guinea. The epicenter was at a depth of 58km.

Meanwhile in Syria, three people have died due to flooding in the northeastern province of Hasaka. According to the official news agency SANA, the floods have isolated 28 villages and collapsed a bridge.

Rescue teams are currently searching for five people believed to be trapped under the rubble. Last week, Hasaka province was hit by massive floods that killed five people./.
