(Baonghean) - Many families pay more attention to their children's education; naughty students are more aware of their studies and self-improvement; the quality of local education has been improved. That is the effectiveness that the "Education and Life" clubs in Anh Son district bring.

Under the direction of the Provincial Women's Union and funding from the Flemish Organization for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance (VVOB) - Kingdom of Belgium, the Anh Son District Women's Union has implemented the "Education and Life" Club model. The model has been piloted since July 2010 in hamlets 8 and 9, Hoa Son commune, each club has 40 members participating, aiming to support child education skills for parents with children of minor age. The model combines family, school and community in educating students, helping them to be active and positive in learning.

Under the management of the Commune Women's Union, the Executive Board and the Club Management Board have assigned each member to be in charge of, develop an activity plan, and organize monthly activities with topics such as: learning about active teaching and learning methods; learning about the psychology of puberty; how to educate and train life skills for children; the benefits of a study corner, building a schedule, helping children plan their lives, how to help children orient their future careers... Under the guidance of VVOB, members participate in activities with the "active learning" method, in which the reporter is the person who runs, designs, and guides the program; the members of the Club are the main subjects of the activities. Members must think, discuss together and then present their opinions, participate in acting out skits and games, thereby drawing out the knowledge that the topic wants to mention. Therefore, the activities are not boring but always new and attract all members to participate, thereby helping parents have a more correct view on how to educate their children.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Ky - Head of the Women's Association of Hamlet 8, Hoa Son Commune said: "Before implementing the model, many parents were busy working to earn a living and did not pay much attention to their children's education. When it was first established, the Club encountered many difficulties in management and scenario building. Many members were initially hesitant to participate in activities and did not really understand the purpose of this model. However, with the benefits that the Club brings, it has attracted enthusiastic and active participation from members. Participating in Club activities helps members gain knowledge about how to raise children, thereby raising awareness and changing behavior such as: paying more attention to their children's education, trying to create all conditions to arrange a quiet place with enough light for their children to study, knowing how to listen and respect their opinions, no longer having the same imposing ideology as before".

In the case of Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (born in 1970), her husband is a soldier working far away, she stays at home to work as a health worker in the neighborhood and sell groceries, her work is so busy that she has little time to care for her children, including their studies. "Since joining the club, I have realized that leaving my children to study on their own was a mistake. Like many other women, I know how to arrange my work to listen to my children, share, and accompany them in their studies," Ms. Lan confided. In the case of Ms. Ngo Thi Trang (born in 1972), who gave birth to two daughters, her husband passed away in 2004. Ms. Trang said that in the past, because of the concept that "daughters are other people's children", she did not pay much attention to their studies. But since joining the club, Ms. Trang has eliminated the concept of discrimination between boys and girls; learned a lot of knowledge about children's psychology and physiology, how to teach children to study effectively... Since their mother closely followed their studies, her two daughters, Nguyen Thi Trinh (born in 1995) and Nguyen Thi Dinh (born in 1997), have made remarkable progress in their studies and in the past two school years, they have both achieved the status of advanced students.

Not only providing knowledge, the "Education and Life" Clubs are also a place for members to exchange and share experiences in raising children, helping each other to make their children more obedient... The Clubs are also a bridge between schools and families. Every year, the Board of Directors of the Clubs coordinates with local schools to encourage children who have dropped out of school to return to school. A typical case is Nguyen Ngo Quan (born in 1996) - the son of Nguyen Ngo Nam and Vo Thi Nguyet in Hamlet 9, who used to skip school to play games. With the active participation of the Club, in coordination with the Learning Promotion Association and the school to mobilize and educate, since the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, Quan has completely stopped playing games, goes to school regularly and is more active in studying.

In addition, the “Education and Life” Clubs coordinate with the elderly associations to maintain the “Drum of Studying” movement in an orderly manner and assign members to monitor, urge and mobilize members to contribute funds to help children in difficult circumstances... Thanks to the effective activities of the Clubs, the quality of education in the area has been improved. For example, in Hamlet 8, Hoa Son Commune, before implementing the model, there were only about 30 students in the hamlet who achieved excellent students at all levels. Since the Club started operating, in the 2 school years of 2011-2012 and 2012-2013, each year the hamlet had over 40 students achieving excellent students, of which 10-15 students achieved excellent students at the district level. Ms. Le Thi Phuong - President of the Women's Union of Hoa Son commune added: "Through the activities of the "Education and Life" Club, women participate in the activities of the Women's Union more and more actively, actively implementing the movements launched by the Women's Union such as: "Raising piggy banks" movement to save money for children's education; the campaign "Building a loving home for poor women"... Therefore, for many years, the women's unions of hamlets 8 and 9 have been one of the excellent leading branches of the women's movement of the commune".

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Nga - Vice President of the Women's Union of Anh Son district said: "From the effectiveness of the activities of the 2 "Education and Life" Clubs in Hoa Son commune, the District Women's Union has directed the replication of this model. Up to now, in the district, there have been 21 "Education and Life" Clubs with many practical and useful activities, creating opportunities for parents to access information sources, creating a change in awareness in educating minors to support their children to study actively and develop comprehensive personalities. At the same time, the activities of these clubs have contributed to improving the capacity of the Women's Union in propagating and mobilizing the community to participate in education in general and supporting schools in implementing active teaching and learning. In the coming time, the District Women's Union will continue to direct the Women's Unions of communes to maintain and replicate this model in villages and hamlets, contributing to promoting the socialization of education, improving the quality of comprehensive education. of the home district".
