Quinvaxem vaccine to be re-injected in October
On the morning of September 24, Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine Nguyen Van Binh said that after 5 months of stopping Quinvaxem injections, starting from October, this vaccine will be injected again at all vaccination sites nationwide.
Quinvaxem vaccine has been tested for safety.
Mr. Binh said that the decision to reintroduce Quinvaxem vaccine was carefully considered by the Ministry of Health after careful investigation results on Quinvaxem vaccine by domestic and foreign organizations confirmed that this vaccine is safe.
Thus, after 5 months of stopping Quinvaxem vaccination nationwide, vaccination sites will resume vaccination in October and the Ministry of Health has fully prepared this vaccine.
The head of the Department of Preventive Medicine said that the Ministry of Health has imported and prepared 1.5 million doses of Quinvaxem vaccine to vaccinate children this time.
According to information from the Ministry of Health, recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially sent a letter to the Vietnamese Minister of Health informing about the safety test results for the Quinvaxem vaccine produced by Berna Biotec Company, Korea.
The independent testing results of the UK National Institute for Vaccine and Biological Standards also showed that Quinvaxem vaccine samples from three batches 1453037, 1453074 and 1453127 - the vaccine batches suspected of being related to severe post-injection reactions in Vietnam, had been tested for quality at the Institute's independent testing room. The testing results on June 14, 2013 showed that the above vaccine batches met quality requirements.
The results of the meeting of the Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety held on June 12, 2013 in Geneva (Switzerland) including more than 30 leading experts on vaccination reviewed all cases of severe reactions after injection of the 5-in-1 Quinvaxem vaccine, including Vietnam, and concluded that there was no evidence of severe reactions or deaths related to the use of the vaccine.
Previously, the Government Office also sent a notice to the Ministry of Health about continuing to use Quinvaxem vaccine in the expanded immunization project.
Regarding the expanded vaccination for young children, according to information from the Department of Preventive Medicine, every month nationwide there are 380,000 children who are eligible for vaccination. Therefore, in the coming time, the re-injection of Quinvaxem vaccine will have difficulties, which is the accumulation of children who have not been vaccinated for 5 months. Therefore, to ensure safety, the Ministry of Health has stepped up inspection of all preparations for this vaccination campaign, such as the preservation of the cold chain for vaccine preservation, ensuring a maximum of 50 children/vaccination point in one vaccination session...
After more than 25 years of implementing the expanded immunization program, more than 65 million children have been vaccinated with 11 types of vaccines to prevent a number of dangerous infectious diseases. Vietnam has eradicated polio, eliminated neonatal tetanus, reduced the number of cases and deaths from dangerous infectious diseases, contributing to improving health, ensuring social security and socio-economic development./.
Quinvaxem vaccine was included in the Expanded Immunization Program in Vietnam since June 2010, funded by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) through the United Nations Children's Fund. It is a vaccine that has been pre-qualified for quality by the World Health Organization. After being imported into Vietnam, the vaccine is re-inspected by the National Institute for Control of Vaccines and Biologicals of the Ministry of Health for safety and quality, and also undergoes phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials on Vietnamese children, and is licensed for use in Vietnam by the Ministry of Health. |
