People continue to flock to visit General Vo Nguyen Giap
(Baonghean.vn)- On October 12, thousands of people continued to flock to the provincial military command headquarters, lining up, quietly braving the sun to pay their respects to General Vo Nguyen Giap.
From early morning, Le Hong Phong Street, the section passing the provincial military headquarters, was congested with people and vehicles coming to offer incense and flowers to General Vo Nguyen Giap. Despite the hot weather, crowded streets, and long waits, very few people honked their horns or felt uncomfortable. Everyone waited quietly, lined up their vehicles in the parking lot, and slowly walked in with flowers and incense.
Although everyone wanted to get to the General’s altar as quickly as possible, no one pushed or tried to break away from the line to get ahead. The atmosphere was orderly, solemn, and quiet to the point of being touching. 90-year-old Nguyen Duc Mai wiped away his tears and confided that, from childhood to adulthood, he had never seen a funeral where so many people voluntarily lined up to pay their respects.

Joining the slow stream of people coming to the altar to pay their respects to the General, Mr. Nguyen Minh Thuyet, born in 1979, an officer of Construction Company No. 2, brought his 5-month-old son Nguyen Minh Ha and his elderly mother to offer incense to the General. His son was too young to understand what was happening or to know who the holy old man in the black and white photo was, but his father hoped that when he grew up, his children would gradually understand and try to follow the example of the great General.

As for Ms. Nguyen Thi Dan (64 years old), a former anti-aircraft artillery soldier of Vinh city team who participated in the resistance war against the US, General Vo Nguyen Giap is not only a legendary elder brother, but she always believes that the General is both a great man and a simple person, a fairy in everyday life. "After Uncle Ho, the General is the person admired and affectionately called Uncle by the entire Vietnamese people. Although we are veterans, we vow to continue to strive and rise up in life as the General taught, old but not old", Ms. Dan confided, wiping away tears.
