On the afternoon of April 28, Song Lam Nghe An Club said it had received an official response from Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) regarding the comments related to the refereeing in the match against The Cong Viettel, in round 20 of V.League 2024, taking place at Hang Day Stadium.

Previously, on April 26, the Nghe An team sent a document to VPF, expressing dissatisfaction with the decisions of the referee team controlling the match. In the response letter, VPF "respectfully acknowledges the information and comments on refereeing work" that SLNA has stated.

The tournament organizers also said that they have compiled related situations based on reports and professional documents of the match, and transferred all of this material to the Referee Board of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for review and evaluation.

VPF affirms that it will always coordinate and provide maximum support to the VFF Referee Board in improving the quality of refereeing work, in order to ensure success, transparency and fairness for the highest tournament of Vietnamese football.

The focus of this incident revolves around 3 controversial situations that SLNA mentioned in a document sent to VPF, the most prominent of which was the ball in the 51st minute. At that time, SLNA put the ball into the net of The Cong Viettel, but the goal was not recognized. Referee Nguyen Viet Duan and his assistants determined that the ball had gone out of the field before the SLNA player made the shot.

However, SLNA said that the camera angles from television as well as videos recorded by spectators from many favorable positions all showed that the ball did not completely cross the goal line. Notably, despite the support signal from the VAR team, referee Nguyen Viet Duan still decided not to review the play and maintained the decision not to recognize the goal.

The Nghe An team believes that these controversial decisions have directly affected the situation and results of the match in a way that is unfavorable to them. In the official dispatch sent to VPF, SLNA emphasized: "To ensure fairness and objectivity in the refereeing work of the tournament, regain the trust of the audience nationwide as well as the audience of Song Lam Nghe An Club, we request the Vietnam Football Federation to pay close attention and provide timely instructions on the refereeing work and VAR technology currently applied."
