Recently, visiting the Cordyceps production facility located on Yersin Street, Da Lat City, Dr. Pham S, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, highly appreciated the successful cultivation of this rare medicinal herb, and at the same time suggested a new direction for the development of high-tech eco-tourism in Da Lat.

Le Tuan Anh, a bachelor of biotechnology, guided us to visit the 1,600m2 cordyceps production facility, located in a new residential area on Yersin Street. This is a branch of Thien Phuc Herbal Joint Stock Company (headquartered in Hanoi), which has been in operation for more than 6 months. Initially, the facility sold about 20,000 bottles of finished products per month, including 2 main product lines: substrate (mushroom germination stage) and mycelium (mushrooms develop into long threads of about 5cm).

To create a finished product, the facility must operate the process for 90 days, from the raw material incubation stage to steaming with 100 degree Celsius coal fire, then transferring to the cooling waiting area, and finally to the greenhouse culture room with automatic humidification and purified water irrigation equipment... All production areas go through an absolute sterilization system, including an ultraviolet light system with capacity adjusted appropriately according to each time and different finished product volumes.

The entire raw material for producing Cordyceps in Da Lat consists of 98% rice and other cereals grown on Lam Dong land; the remaining 2% are supplements under the copyright of research and processing of Thien Phuc Herbal Joint Stock Company.

Talking about the characteristics of cordyceps produced in Da Lat compared to cordyceps in nature, Mr. Le Tuan Anh analyzed: Cordyceps was discovered in the Tibetan plateau, Sichuan, China a long time ago, scientifically described in the mid-19th century. This is a parasitic fungus on worms in nature during the cold winter. In late spring and early warm summer, the fungus eats all the nutrients in the body of the worm, causing the worm to die, then grows into plant fibers on the ground. As a rare oriental medicine, cordyceps has the effect of improving health, strengthening the human immune system...

Thien Phuc Herbal Joint Stock Company has successfully produced Cordyceps sinensis since 2011, replacing the nutrients in the worm with synthetic substrates (starch) to achieve a much higher medicinal content than the medicinal substances grown in nature. In particular, Da Lat has high humidity, mild temperature and low amplitude of oscillation, natural light source is not hot... are ideal conditions for cultivating Cordyceps sinensis, so it has significantly reduced the costs of refrigeration, humidity intervention... like production in hot environments.

On November 24, 2014, the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) confirmed that the cordyceps products of Thien Phuc Herbal Joint Stock Company are produced in accordance with food safety regulations (announced every 3 years). The Thien Phuc Da Lat cordyceps brand is produced in 3 areas, next to Yersin Street is the area near Cam Ly waterfall and Prenn waterfall. Currently, with a cultivation capacity of 20,000 bottles of cordyceps per month under the Thien Phuc Da Lat brand, 50% of which are sold to domestic medicinal processing units, 30% are exported to Germany and Thailand, 20% are consumed domestically. In December 2014 alone, dozens of domestic tourist groups visited and bought more than 1,000 bottles of Thien Phuc Da Lat cordyceps.

“With similar medicinal quality, Thien Phuc Da Lat Cordyceps is always sold at a price 50% or more lower than the same type of Cordyceps imported from countries such as the US, China, Japan, Korea…”, Mr. Le Tuan Anh affirmed.

Thien Phuc's Cordyceps production facility in Da Lat strives to produce 100,000 bottles/month in the first 6 months of 2015; reaching 1 million bottles/month by the end of 2015. A number of workers with average incomes in the country have sought to buy Thien Phuc Da Lat Cordyceps to make tea, soak in wine, cook porridge, steam rice... with fresh products, priced at 600,000 VND/bottle. Therefore, the opportunity to expand production is huge, helping consumers use high-quality oriental medicine products at affordable prices.
