Acupressure for eye diseases is not only an effective treatment, but it is also a good prevention for ophthalmic diseases.

Optic nerve atrophy is caused by complications in the optic nerve (TKTG) in patients for some reason, affecting its ability to transmit impulses to the central nervous system, causing the patient's vision to be significantly reduced or completely lost.

The visual pathways include: the optic nerve, the optic chiasm, the optic tract, the optic rays, and the visual center (of the brain).

The cause of the disease is very complicated. According to oriental medicine, there are three types: deficiency syndrome, excess syndrome, and deficiency-excess combination. Deficiency syndrome is often due to deficiency of liver and kidney; excess syndrome is often due to stagnation of liver qi, when the muscles are not smooth, blood and qi stagnate; deficiency-excess combination is seen when both of the above symptoms appear at the same time.

Modern medicine believes that the cause of optic atrophy is often due to damage to the nerves that control the facial area such as the optic chiasm, and the optic tract can also be caused by poisoning from highly toxic substances such as lead, arsenic, etc. Or due to optic neuritis, choroiditis, retinopathy, genetics...

Oriental medicine divides the following types:

- Kidney deficiency: Dry eyes, blurred vision, decreased vision, may be accompanied by color blindness, even complete blindness. Accompanied by headache, tinnitus, night sweats, pink tongue with little coating, rapid and weak pulse.

- Blood stasis: Seeing objects dimly, even losing light, depressed spirit, chest and rib pain, sad stomach..., eating little, pink tongue, white tongue coating, pulse tense like a guitar string.

- Damage to the three organs: The patient has white eyelids, gradually blurred vision, even complete blindness. The tongue is pale, the tongue coating is white, the pulse is small, weak and without strength.

Treatment method:

The principle of Oriental medicine is to clear the liver, regulate qi, nourish blood, and clear the channels.

Here are some massage techniques that have healing effects:

- The patient lies on his back, using the small fish stick of the left hand to roll and massage the forehead, above the eyebrows and around the two temples for about 2 minutes. This method can also be performed with both hands at the same time; use the rotating edge of the thumb and the cylindrical edge of the middle finger to press the Toan Truc and Ngu Yeu points on the same side of the patient, simultaneously massaging the 4 points opposite each other for about 1 minute;

- Use the index finger and thumb to pinch and pull the Toan Truc - Ngu Yeu - Ty Truc Khong points above the eye sockets, 8 times. Then also use the thumb and index finger to wipe and rub above the eye sockets 8 times.

The above two methods can be performed alternately. Or use the fingertips to press the Cau Hau acupoint for about 1 minute. Then use the middle fingers of both hands to press the E Minh and Phong Tri acupoints for one minute each. The pressure on the above acupoints is based on the patient's feeling of pain and tension.

Note: The above methods are often effective. However, if the cause is optic nerve injury or infection, you should see an ophthalmologist for specific treatment instructions.

Trick explanation:

- Rubbing method: is to use the thumb or any finger placed on the area to be treated, using the force of the finger to move left, right or back and forth is called wiping method.

- Massage method: take a finger or the base of the hand and place it firmly at the place where the treatment is to be performed, and massage it forward, backward, or in a circle from the inside out, from the outside in. This is called massage method.

- Rub: use your hands to gently rub back and forth over the body's surface.

In summary: Acupressure for eye diseases is not only an effective treatment method, but it is also one of the good preventive methods for ophthalmic diseases. The advantages are that it is painless, leaves no traces, and has no side effects.
