Oriental medicine treatment of colitis
The colon (large intestine) has the function of receiving waste from the small intestine (small intestine) and at the same time expelling waste.
The waste from the small intestine has been absorbed by the large intestine in part. If the function of absorbing this water is poor due to the large intestine being cold, it will cause rumbling in the stomach, abdominal pain, and loose stools; on the contrary, if the large intestine is hot, the absorption of water will be excessive, leading to constipation. Long-term constipation will lead to heat-condensed bladder syndrome (round, hard stools, surrounded by mucus).
The colon is related to the lungs. Therefore, lung disease affects the colon, shortness of breath in the lungs, constipation in the colon and vice versa.
Colitis has two forms: acute and chronic.
Acute form: The main cause is due to unhygienic eating, spoiled food, indigestible food, dysentery, worms...
Symptoms: Segmental abdominal pain or pain along the colon, persistent diarrhea, sometimes with fever.
Left-sided colitis or sigmoiditis: Frequent urge to defecate (10-20 times) in 24 hours, feeling of fullness in the rectum, loose stools with mucus and possibly blood.
Right colon and cecum inflammation: Loose stools, foul odor, less frequent (3 - 6 times) in 24 hours.
Colon spasm: In the inflamed colon area, during the pain, the patient feels a hard abdomen, the colon feels raised in segments, lumps and gradually dissolves under the hand. If the colitis is low in the muscle spasm, it can push the stool out of the anus. The disease is usually mild, if treated early and in the right direction, it will be cured within 2-3 days.
Chronic form: Due to acute colitis, not treated properly, the disease gradually becomes chronic. Due to bacillary dysentery or amoebic dysentery leaving damage in the intestines. Due to Coli, protéus infection (this type of bacillus is often present in the intestines, encountered when there is a digestive disorder, resistance is reduced and becomes a pathogenic bacteria). Poisoning due to increased blood urea, due to mercury. Due to intestinal tuberculosis, due to parasitic worms, due to long-term constipation, due to autonomic nervous system disorders.
Symptoms: Bitter mouth, poor appetite, large tongue. Irregular bowel movements, urge to defecate after eating (gastro-colonic reflex). Abdominal pain, bloating. Pain may be felt throughout the colon, or in specific areas. Alternating constipation and loose stools. Colon spasms cause intermittent colic pain. Transverse ileitis causes heaviness in the abdomen, bloating. Sigmoid colitis causes pain when touched, frequent bowel movements. Proctitis causes burning sensation in the anus, urge to defecate and pain.
For chronic colitis, treatment must be persistent, pay attention to hygiene in eating, do not eat hard-to-digest foods, spoiled foods. Avoid fried foods, spices, canned foods. Should eat foods rich in vitamins.

Constipation: Eat more fresh vegetables, bananas, stewed potatoes. If you have diarrhea, you should not drink milk because milk easily ferments and produces gas.

Colitis often manifests in two forms:

Anxiety, intermittent pain in the lower abdomen, sometimes a feeling of comfort when defecating, rumbling in the abdomen, nausea, thick white tongue coating, thin and rapid pulse.
