(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of January 14, the Provincial Police held a conference to disseminate information on ensuring security and order and preventing firecrackers during the 2017 Lunar New Year. Colonel Le Khac Thuyet - Deputy Director of the Provincial Police chaired the conference.

Attending the conference were leaders of the Provincial Police, departments, offices and representatives of leaders and reporters of 47 central and local press agencies operating in the province.

According to the report at the conference, in 2016, the work of analyzing, grasping and forecasting the situation on key routes, fields and areas was done well; no complicated "hot spots" of security and order occurred. Effectively deployed peak periods of attacking and suppressing crimes, contributing to curbing the increase of all types of crimes.

Specifically: in 2016, Nghe An Police investigated and clarified 859 cases of social order and safety crimes; arrested and handled 1,448 subjects; of which, serious crimes reached 100%. Arrested 1,259 cases, 4,642 gambling subjects, collected 7.6 billion VND... In the fight against drug crimes, Nghe An Police continued to be the leading unit in the country, arrested 1,038 cases, 1,260 subjects; discovered and dismantled 21 drug rings, eradicated 4 areas, 27 complex drug hotspots. The results of the fight against economic, positional and environmental crimes achieved many outstanding results, handled 1,763 cases, 1,889 subjects; traffic accidents decreased in all 3 criteria.

Particularly in the campaign to suppress crimes before, during and after the Dinh Dau Lunar New Year 2017 (from December 16, 2016 to January 12, 2017), Nghe An Police discovered, arrested and handled 463 cases, 889 criminals and law violators. Of which, crimes against social order (67 cases); social evils (114 cases, 416 subjects); drug crimes (95 cases, 124 subjects)... In particular, in the peak period of fighting against violations related to fireworks, up to now, Nghe An Police force has discovered and arrested 204 cases, 240 subjects, confiscated nearly 2.5 tons of various types of fireworks, 100 kg of fireworks powder...

Forces of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) and Dien Chau Traffic Police Station (Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police) checked the number of fireworks transported on passenger cars.

It is estimated that at the end of the year, all types of crimes will increase, so in addition to the determination to fight against all types of crimes by Nghe An Police, the industry also hopes that the press agencies will take strong action to detect and provide timely information to the Police. In addition, propaganda and raising awareness to both the political system and the people, especially the grassroots political system, about the harmful effects of firecrackers as well as other criminal activities in life.

Journalist Van Hien suggested that the police force should soon establish a team of "eyes and ears" at the grassroots level to provide information on current firecracker trading activities, because he believes that these activities are often very secretive, mainly communicating by phone or buying and selling online...

Speaking at the conference, representatives of press agencies affirmed that they will always accompany Nghe An Police in propagating and orienting public opinion. In addition, the press agencies requested the Police sector to strengthen coordination and create more favorable conditions for accessing information so that reporters have enough documents to post news and write articles; requested PA83 to strengthen management work, because currently many reporters and collaborators take advantage of the names of some newspapers to harass and profiteer at the grassroots level, causing difficulties in press activities;

Press conferences should be held for typical and sensitive cases so that the press can inform and orient public opinion; regarding the work of preventing and combating firecrackers during the upcoming Lunar New Year, it is recommended that the Public Security sector should build a team of collaborators from the grassroots level because they are the "eyes and ears" providing accurate information; for firecracker trafficking cases, it is necessary to promptly complete the file for prosecution if there is enough quantity according to the law...

At the conference, after representatives of the provincial police departments answered the press agencies about the issues raised, in his concluding remarks, comrade Le Khac Thuyet thanked the press agencies for their support in the fight against all types of crime.

At the same time, he affirmed that in the coming time, the provincial police and district police will continue to accompany and create the most favorable conditions for the press to access information.

Regarding the fight against firecrackers during Tet, he said that the leaders of the provincial police and the police of districts, cities and towns are currently launching a high-profile campaign to crack down on this type of crime. The deputy director of the provincial police said that even the setting off of firecrackers, which is very difficult to handle because this activity usually takes place on New Year's Eve, will be severely punished this year if anyone is found setting off firecrackers and has sufficient evidence for the crime of disturbing public order.
