First sale of 6 million Tet flight tickets, prices are sky-high

Nearly 5 months to go until the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo 2025, and there is no holiday schedule from the authorities, domestic airlines have simultaneously announced that they will open ticket sales for Tet from the end of August 2025.

Tickets are on sale from February 2 to March 3, 2026, from December 15 to January 15 of the lunar calendar.

Specifically, the first sale of Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO) started from September 3, with a total of more than 3.5 million seats, including domestic and international flights, an increase of nearly 20% over the same period last year.

Peak flight routes are concentrated between three major cities: Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and key localities such as Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Hue, Quy Nhon, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc...

Of which, the number of seats supplied on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route increased by nearly 18%, the Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang route increased by nearly 9%, the routes between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Hue increased from 9% to 13% compared to the same period. In addition, the airline also increased the exploitation of international routes to Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, ... to meet the travel needs of people during Tet.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo 2025 (falling in early 2026), the proportion of night and early morning flights accounts for nearly 20% of Vietnam Airlines' total flights.

Previously, on August 28, Vietjet Air also announced the early sale of 2.5 million flight tickets for the period from February 3 to March 2, 2026.

Specifically, the ticket price from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc is only from 610,000 VND (excluding taxes and fees). Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Nha Trang, Buon Ma Thuot... cost from 1 million VND. Ticket prices on flights to Hanoi, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong... cost from 1.61 million VND. In the opposite direction, ticket prices start from only 0 VND. The above ticket prices do not include taxes and fees.

Thus, up to this point, a total of 6 million Tet flight tickets have been provided. The two airlines Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines have not yet provided information about their plans to open Tet ticket sales.

Depending on market demand, aircraft resource balance and slot allocation, Vietnam Airlines Group and Vietjet will open sales for the next Tet flight tickets.

In fact, from February 10-11, 2026 (December 23) onwards, Tet flight ticket prices have increased rapidly, especially on some "hot" routes.

Specifically, from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, airfares increased gradually, from 6.36 million VND/round-trip ticket (trip on 24th of Tet) to 6.78 million VND (25th of Tet) then 7.3 million VND (6th of Tet) and the return trip on 5th-6th of January. Ticket prices include taxes and fees.

In particular, for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, airfares during Tet are even more intense, ranging from 7-7.45 million VND/round-trip ticket, and for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong, 7.3 million VND/ticket.

Therefore, domestic airlines recommend that passengers proactively book tickets early to avoid shortages and price hikes near Tet; at the same time, passengers should only buy tickets through ticket offices, official agents or on the airline's application to avoid the risk of fake tickets.
