Finalizing the extension of Vinh Airport runway by 600m, expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2025
Upon completion, Vinh Airport will have a 3,000m long runway, capable of receiving wide-body, long-range aircraft, often operating on international or transcontinental routes such as the Boeing 787, 777 or Airbus A350.

On July 9, 2025, the Board of Directors of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) issued Resolution No. 346/NQ-HDQT, approving the investment policy of the project "Extending the runway - Vinh International Airport" by 600m.
This is a Group B project, a level I traffic project, invested by ACV, implemented on an area of 67.5 hectares at Vinh Airport, Vinh Hung Ward, Nghe An Province. The total estimated investment is more than 545 billion VND, using ACV's legal capital.
According to the plan, investment preparation will begin in the third quarter of 2025, with construction starting in the fourth quarter of 2025. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation within 6 months from the date the investor receives the site handover.
Currently, Vinh International Airport (Vinh Airport) has only one runway 2,400m long and 45m wide, with a scale only suitable for operating narrow-body aircraft such as A320/A321 (code C aircraft) or equivalent.
Meanwhile, to be able to receive and operate wide-body aircraft capable of long-haul flights, often used for international or transcontinental flights such as Boeing 787, 777 or Airbus A350 (code E aircraft), the runway needs to be extended to 3,000m.
From July 1 to December 31, 2025, Vinh airport will temporarily suspend all flight operations to serve three major infrastructure renovation and upgrade projects invested by ACV, including: Repairing runways and taxiways; renovating and expanding aircraft parking lots; and renovating passenger terminal T1.
However, the current runway repair project is only limited to the existing length of 2,400m, with a total investment of 623.4 billion VND.
Therefore, the project to extend Vinh Airport's runway by 600m is expected to improve operational capacity and meet growing freight transport needs.
Recently, the Provincial People's Committee and ACV held a working session to study solutions to speed up the progress of projects at Vinh International Airport, especially extending the runway by 600m.
