According to the final FIFA rankings of 2017 announced today (December 21), the Vietnam national football team jumped 13 places, from 125th to 112th in the world.
Thus, Coach Park Hang Seo and his team have now surpassed the Philippines (ranked 124th in the world) to become the number 1 team in Southeast Asia. This is also the highest ranking of the Vietnam team since 2012. The current ranking of 112th helps the Vietnam team get closer to Coach Park Hang Seo's goal of entering the top 100 in the world.
Last month, with a 0-0 draw with Afghanistan to qualify for the 2019 Asian Cup finals, Vietnam earned 33 more points and was one of the best promoted teams in the world in December.
Meanwhile, the Philippines dropped 6 places and accepted to become the number 2 team in Southeast Asia in 2017. Thailand (ranked 130, up 2 places) ranked 3rd in the region while 4th place belonged to Myanmar (ranked 140, up 10 places).
