The biggest concern of team leader Mai Duc Chung when playing away from home is not the pressure from more than 80,000 Malaysian spectators but that the Vietnamese team will have to face excessive cheering from home fans such as throwing flares, shining laser beams to blind the players or booing and throwing water bottles onto the field.

"In the past, the Vietnam national football team had to compete many times under the unfair cheering of Malaysian fans. The actions of throwing flares and shining lasers by the home fans threatened the playing mentality of the Vietnamese national football team players. Tomorrow, December 5, I will make a recommendation to the tournament's Organizing Committee in the technical meeting before the semi-final match of the AFF Cup 2014", the head of the Vietnam football delegation shared during the training session this morning (December 4). In an interview with the Malaysian media, Mr. Mai Duc Chung also sent a message to the home fans: "The actions of shining lasers and burning flares have become the identity of Malaysian fans when they compete with any opponent. However, I hope that those who come to the stadium to cheer for this match will be civilized so that both teams can contribute a beautiful match at the AFF Cup 2014".

Coach Mai Duc Chung sent a message to Malaysian fans through an interview with the Head of the Vietnamese Football Delegation by the country's media.

Goalkeeper Nguyen Manh of the Vietnam national football team confidently said: "If the organizing committee cannot intervene, I am mentally prepared to compete under the pressure of lasers and flares from Malaysian spectators". Four years ago, also in the semi-finals of the AFF Cup 2010, goalkeeper Tan Truong of the Vietnam national football team made a mistake that led to the first goal of the home team in a 2-0 defeat to Malaysia.

Mr. Mai Duc Chung also added that the Vietnamese team is quite satisfied with the food and accommodation conditions in Malaysia. However, the training ground provided by the host country is not of good quality, but the whole team will try to overcome it.

Commenting on Vietnam's opponent in the semi-finals, the head of the Vietnamese delegation said: "The Malaysian team will be missing two key players, Mohd Shukor Adan and striker Mohd Amri Yahyah, because they received enough cards leading to suspension. Besides, they just lost to Vietnam 3-1 in a friendly match in early November, so Malaysia's mentality is certainly not really good when having to meet coach Miura and his team again.

The Vietnamese team is not afraid of Malaysia and will play offensively according to the style of play that Coach Miura has conveyed to the players. We will try our best and play with dedication for our home fans. Besides, I also hope that Vietnamese people studying and working in Malaysia will come to Shah Alam Stadium to support Coach Miura and his team in the match on December 7."
