Vietnam-Germany Forestry Project in Nghe An: Planting and regenerating nearly 8,000 hectares of forest

(Baonghean.vn) –This morning, December 25, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to summarize the Vietnam - Germany Forestry Project in Nghe An province. Attending the conference were Mr. Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Project Management Board, leaders of 5 districts and 21 communes participating in the project.

The KfW4 project funded by the German Reconstruction Bank aims to plant and sustainably manage 19,000 hectares of production forests on barren land and hills that are ecologically threatened. It has been assigned to farmers in selected villages and hamlets in communes in 10 districts of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. In Nghe An, 21 communes in 5 districts: Thanh Chuong, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu and Yen Thanh participate in establishing and managing 9,000 hectares of forest.

After 10 years of implementation, despite many difficulties, Nghe An province has successfully implemented the project items, enhancing the capacity of the community through participatory planning. Many experiences in the project implementation process have also been applied by the communes to develop local socio-economic development plans. Based on the land use planning in the communes, the Project Management Boards of the districts have conducted surveys and measured the area, then produced seedlings.



Attendees

To date, the Project has organized 315 training courses with a total of over 8,300 participants; Planted and regenerated nearly 8,000 hectares of forest, of which the planted forest area of ​​over 3,900 hectares accounts for 49.6%. By the end of 2012, the project had opened over 5,400 personal deposit accounts for households participating in the project with an amount of nearly 22.9 billion VND, directly creating jobs for over 5,400 households with over 16,200 workers./.
