This year, due to the influence of the Lanina phenomenon, cold air may come earlier and stronger than usual.
"According to forecasts, the weak cold air mass affecting our country combined with the tropical convergence zone and the activity of disturbances in the upper easterly wind zone can cause heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Northern and Central provinces as above.
During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. There is a risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous provinces and flooding in low-lying areas. It is necessary to review vulnerable areas at risk of flash floods and landslides to proactively prevent them," said Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh - Deputy Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The Meteorological Agency added that in the evening and night of September 22, from Da Nang to Binh Thuan, the Central Highlands and the South, there will be showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 20-40mm, in some places over 100mm; the midlands and mountainous areas of the North will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 15-30mm, in some places over 50mm.
