Latvian tourist in Ho Chi Minh City is the 54th case in Vietnam

A 33-year-old Latvian, who flew to Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc, was confirmed positive for nCoV today, becoming "patient 54".

The Ministry of Health announced on the evening of March 15 that Mr. Vladislavs Mozgovojs and his wife arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Turkish Airway flight TK162 from Istanbul, Türkiye, on March 8. The two continued to Phu Quoc on flight QH1521, staying at La Nube Residence hotel until March 13. They then returned to Ho Chi Minh City on flight QH1524, staying at hotels on Bui Vien street, District 1 and District 4.

On the afternoon of March 14, the patient had a fever and went to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City for a check-up. The sample was taken for testing and the result was positive. The sample was sent to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City and tested using RT-PCR technique and the result was positive on March 15.

The patient is currently being treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City.The wife is being quarantined, awaiting nCoV test results.

The health sector is taking samples for testing of people in close contact with the patient.

This is the 8th Covid-19 patient in Ho Chi Minh City, of which 3 have recovered. 5 new infections were recorded in the past week.

Authorities on the afternoon of March 15 called on passengers on the three flights with "patient 54" and those in close contact to urgently contact the nearest health facility for health checks and instructions on infection prevention.
