Tourists wrestle at mud festival in South Korea

The 19th Boryeong Mud Festival takes place on Daecheon Beach from July 15 to 24, with many exciting activities for locals and tourists.

This unique festival takes place every year around mid-July in Boryeong city, about 200 km from the capital Seoul of South Korea.

Locals and tourists alike enjoy fun activities ranging from mud slides, mud baths to massages.

The festival is held to promote the benefits and uses of mud in skin care cosmetics, as well as to boost tourism to the Daecheon area.

The mud used for the event is mineral mud taken from around Daecheon beach.

Other activities include obstacle course marathons, swimming in giant mud pools…

In addition, you can also enjoy live music and watch the mud beauty contest.

The festival has a special area for children.

The mud festival is said to attract the highest number of international visitors among Korean festivals.

The city has welcomed about 2.2 million visitors each year since the festival was first held in 1998.
