Russian public opinion on Prime Minister Medvedev's visit to Vietnam

Russian press from the central to major news agencies all reported prominently on Mr. Medvedev's visit to Vietnam.

Russian Prime Minister Medvedev's visit to Vietnam has received much attention from the Russian public. In recent days, Russian media have published many news and articles related to this visit.

On the morning of November 7, many major Russian television channels, news agencies and newspapers simultaneously reported on Prime Minister Medvedev's official visit to Vietnam.

In the main news bulletin early in the morning, Russia's national television channel "Rossia" reported on the official welcoming ceremony. Major news agencies such as: Ria Novosti, Itar Tass, Interfax... regularly updated information on the activities of the Russian Prime Minister in Hanoi, reported on the results achieved during the visit and reviewed important areas of cooperation between the Russian Federation and Vietnam.

In general, Russian media focused on reflecting and exploiting in detail the results achieved during the visit.

National television channel "1 TV" reported with the headline "Free trade area between Vietnam and Customs Union countries needs to be established soon", emphasizing the prospects for enhancing economic and trade cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in particular and with ASEAN in general.

Ria Novosti news agency, citing sources, emphasized that trade turnover between Russia and Vietnam in 2011 increased by 25% and according to both Russia and Vietnam, this figure could reach 7 billion USD in 2015.

In that context, the two countries will start negotiations to sign the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the Customs Union in the first quarter of 2013.

This event will open up many new opportunities to increase trade turnover between the two countries and other countries in the region in the coming years.

The business and economic website Bussines Tass and the Ria Novosti news agency reported from Hanoi that Russia and Vietnam are cooperating very effectively in the energy sector, highlighting the success of the Vietsovpetro oil and gas joint venture established in 1981.

In addition, major Russian oil and gas companies such as "Gasprom", "Lukoil", "TNK-BP"... are also effectively cooperating with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group on the continental shelf of Vietnam, in Russia and third countries.

Russian newspapers also emphasized the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and training, based on the relationship over the past 60 years when the Soviet Union and Russia trained more than 52,000 experts for Vietnam and currently there are nearly 6,000 Vietnamese students studying in Russia.

Ahead of the visit, Russian newspapers also published many articles and quoted some notable content in the interview that Prime Minister Medvedev gave to Vietnamese reporters before leaving for Vietnam.

The meeting focused on economic, trade, investment and cooperation relations between the two countries on international and regional issues of mutual interest./.
