Full of Tet movies
Five Vietnamese films released this Tet season with a variety of genres - from historical films to horror films and comedies - along with four foreign films (action and animation) have created a Tet movie feast with a wide variety of flavors for viewers to choose from, whether good or bad.

Today's audiences are no longer the ones who only know about movies during Tet? And Tet holidays are long, how many people just hang around and watch a few comedies over and over again for fun if they are movie lovers? Furthermore, the success of non-seasonal box office revenue of movies like De Mai Tinh, Long Ruoi, Giao Lo Dinh Menh... has been the motivation for filmmakers to dare to bet on more unique dishes, even unfamiliar with the Tet season. This year, that "unique flavor" has appeared in the Tet movie party after four movies have just been revealed. Perhaps only Thien Menh Anh Hung - the most anticipated historical film by director Victor Vu - is still a mystery.
Tet movies and audience segments
Blood Curse is a movie... with ghosts and countless mysterious and dramatic details. But choosing to fall during the Tet holiday, perhaps the producers have confidence in a movie that is elaborate, attractive, has a star (NSUT Thanh Loc - a familiar face to both theater and movie audiences) and is made by a talented, famous young director. Released in theaters nearly 10 days in advance (at the same time as Dance of the Curves), and has been "noticed" for a long time with images revealing the spirit of the movie: mysterious, dramatic..., Blood Curse promises that at least the first week (always the most important week in terms of revenue) will not be empty of audiences.
Fee for Love is a romantic comedy, good plot (written by a screenwriter who studied in the US), star actors (Huy Khanh, Minh Hang, Hieu Hien...) but the director couldn't control the pace of the film so the beginning was okay, then the film became out of control until the ending with the forced and sloppy Flash mobs dance scene that made the story disjointed and unconvincing...
With the same film-within-a-film style as Love Fee, Dance of the Curves leans more towards sentiment than comedy and is a rather boring film, even the humorous efforts that the director made in this film did not reach. The film from the beginning reminded me of Victor Vu's Love Story in a Foreign Land when the actors took turns narrating in front of the camera, Kim Phuong - Vo Thanh Tam in the way of speaking, dialogue and acting resembled Dustin Nguyen's acting with Kathy Uyen in De Mai Tinh, while Tang Nhat Tue in the role of the gay guy reminded me of Thai Hoa, but Tue did not have Thai Hoa's natural charm so this role sometimes became "showy".
Hello Miss Ba
Scheduled to be released on January 17 and officially premiered on January 18, Hello Co Ba with a familiar cast such as Hoai Linh, Tan Beo, Kim Thu, Hoang Son, Hieu Hien, overseas singer Phi Nhung, Phuoc Sang and even athlete Pham Van Mach... is a comedy. Labeled "Phuoc Sang's movie", Hello Co Ba was of course made with a moderate budget, with the main target: ordinary audiences, provincial audiences. And perhaps like every year, Phuoc Sang's family will still make a steady profit with this familiar dish.
The most anticipated and most awaited film to date is undoubtedly the historical film The Heroic Fate. Based on the idea of the novel The Blood Letter (author: Bui Anh Tan), The Heroic Fate is a meticulously produced historical film with an estimated budget of about 25 billion VND, directed by Victor Vu, action director Johnny Tri Nguyen, music by Christopher Wong (soundtrack for The Heroic Blood)...
The film has aroused curiosity among industry insiders about its record-breaking production time. With more than 100 days of filming (twice as long as the average number of days for a current feature film, even three times longer than Long ruoi), but Thien menh anh hung only spent about a month on post-production! The film's record-breaking budget also shows that it is almost impossible to recover capital in the domestic market! However, the producers of Thien menh anh hung revealed that they have plans to export the film to Korea and Europe. The partners they are targeting all highly appreciate the production work as well as the talent of director Victor Vu.
Side dishes are not just popcorn
This year's Tet marks the expansion, upgrading, and construction of a series of cinema complexes and screening rooms across the country. Film distribution giants such as MegaStar (adding the Cresent Mall and Pico Mall cinema complexes, bringing the total to nine cinema complexes with 79 screening rooms and 9,972 seats), Galaxy, BHD Star Cinema, Lotte Cinema (adding the Lotte Cinema Landmark cinema complex), Cinebox... have all made significant investments in their cinema systems to welcome audiences. With such a significant increase in the number of screening rooms, it is not surprising that Vietnamese Tet films are shown in most cinema complexes (at MegaStar, each Vietnamese film during Tet has an average of eight screenings, at BHD Star Cinema six screenings, and at Galaxy five screenings), except for a few differences such as BHD Star Cinema and Galaxy not showing Dance of the Curve, Lotte Cinema Diamond Plaza and Cinebox not showing Love's Blood Curse and Fee of Love...
A producer said that the choice of screening films at each cinema complex partly depends on the distributor's wishes, and partly depends on the number of screening rooms at that cinema complex; if there are too few screening rooms, they cannot screen all the films. Only MegaStar, with its overwhelming number of screening rooms and seats, dares to screen all Vietnamese films during Tet season at the same time as three foreign films.
BHD Star Cinema is probably the theater chain that spends the most on this year's Lunar New Year promotion, which is the program Watching Tet movies - welcoming spring fortune. From January 13 to February 16, audiences who buy two movie tickets at BHD Star Cinema will receive a lucky draw ticket with a total prize value of up to 332 million VND. As for MegaStar and Galaxy, buying and tearing to watch a movie and receiving a lucky money envelope is the choice of these two theater chains. At the theater chains of the Cinebox theater system (Cinebox is also the distributor of the Curved Dance), when buying each pair of tickets for the movie Curved Dance, audiences will be entered into a lucky draw with the chance to win thousands of gifts...
So, the audience watching Tet movies will have more interesting things to enjoy, not just soft drinks and popcorn.
And it can be said that if the films Blood Curse and Heroic Destiny have an audience this Tet season, the revenue is enough to cover the capital and the profit is enough to reproduce, it will mean that today's Vietnamese audience is truly an audience. They go to the cinema because the movies are good, because the movies are attractive and because they love Vietnamese movies, not just because of the Tet season and Tet holidays like before.
