Taking Vietnam-US space science cooperation to new heights

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan hopes NASA will support human resource training in the fields of satellites and earth sciences.



Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan received Mr. Charles F. Bolden, Administrator of NASA and his delegation.

On the afternoon of December 11, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan received Mr. Charles F. Bolden - Director General of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and his delegation who are visiting and working in Vietnam.
Thanking Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan for taking the time to receive the delegation, Mr. Charles F. Bolden expressed his joy at the achievements of the Vietnam National Satellite Center in recent times and the successful launch of Vietnam's VINASAT 2 satellite in May 2012.

Mr. Bolden said that NASA's visit and work in Vietnam aimed to discuss with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology about potential areas of cooperation in space science and technology, bringing the cooperative relationship between the two agencies to a new level.

At the same time, further promote space technology cooperation between Vietnam and the United States, especially the application of satellite technology to monitor natural resources, environment and natural disasters.

Mr. Bolden added that on the morning of December 11, the NASA delegation had an exchange at the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School and recognized the sharp thinking of Vietnamese students. Therefore, Mr. Bolden expressed his hope that NASA will cooperate with Vietnam in training high-quality human resources.

Welcoming Mr. Charles F. Bolden to visit Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said that the visit of the head of one of the world's leading space technology centers marks a new step in development of space science and technology cooperation between Vietnam and the US.

The Vietnamese Government is implementing the Satellite Image Processing and Data Center Project at the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, so Vietnam asked NASA to share its experiences in cooperation and development of space technology.

The Deputy Prime Minister also hopes that NASA will support human resource training in the fields of satellites and earth sciences; support Vietnam in participating in international organizations related to space and participating in treaties related to the use of outer space for peaceful purposes./.
