Bringing human rights content into schools
Students from kindergarten to university will learn about equality, respect for differences, and civil rights under Vietnamese and international law.
The project to incorporate human rights into the national education system curriculum was approved by the Prime Minister on September 5. The project aims to help students, teachers and administrators be aware of protecting their own rights, respecting the dignity, rights and freedoms of others; and being aware of the responsibilities and obligations of citizens towards the state and society, contributing to the comprehensive development of Vietnamese people.

According to the project, in the 2017-2020 period, three provinces and cities representing three regions (expected to be two schools each for preschool and general education) will conduct the pilot program. Universities and vocational training will conduct the pilot program according to the school group and training group (expected to be three schools each school group).
The goal is that by 2025, 100% of facilities in the national education system will organize teaching of human rights to learners. Preschool children will learn about the basic elements of their own and others' rights and responsibilities. Primary school students will learn about principles and values of human rights such as equality, tolerance, respect for differences and children's human rights as stipulated by international and Vietnamese law.
Secondary school students learn principles and values of human rights at a higher level than primary school students. For high school students, the educational content is principles and values of human rights and civil rights at a higher level than in secondary school; the main mechanisms to protect human rights...
With vocational education, educational content includes mechanisms to protect human rights; skills to apply human rights in professional activities; and resolving disputes arising in labor relations.
University students will learn about the origin, nature and characteristics of human rights and civil rights; the content of human rights stipulated in international conventions that Vietnam has participated in and other international conventions; human rights and civil rights in the 2013 Constitution and specialized laws; protecting and ensuring the rights of vulnerable groups in society...
